1  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Wall art and lighting all in one! on: February 24, 2008 06:59:23 PM
Here is my latest creation.  I was suddenly inspired to poke holes in the back of a canvas and stick a string of white Christmas lights through.  I painted the back of the canvas black because too much light was showing through and I left the front plain.  I absolutely love the glow it puts off in my living room, and Zane likes it too!

EDIT: The holes are poked with a really thick nail.  Then the lights are each pressed through and they hold in there pretty tight.  Then I gathered up the string and mashed it into a bundle, laid thick paper over it, and taped it to the back of the canvas.

Here is my kitty and my art project:

3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / Painting ideas?? on: September 27, 2007 01:30:26 PM
Anybody know of any links to sites that sell paintings or stretched canvas of mod/contemporary/funky/atomic/retro designs?  I love to get inspiration from surfing about the internet to DIY my own canvas creations, but I've run out of a lot of places with more ideas.

Help is appreciated!  xo
4  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / red and white mod canvas art, lotsa pics! on: September 04, 2007 10:45:27 AM
here is my latest in DIY home decor, for under 20 bucks!  the paint is all acrylic craft paint, because i'm too cheap to buy real acrylics, and the boxes and rectangles were made with the aid of masking tape.  i'm a little disappointed that the white bled under the tape a bit but it's starting to grow on me.

first, i painted 3 canvases a bright red:

then, one by one i taped off squares and painted them in (note the plans that i totally ignored):

more boxes:

and even more:

nearly finished!

the end result:

and the end result, in action:

the canvases are hung with soda pop tops.  this took me about 6 hours, over an evening and a morning to complete.  hope you all like!
5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / my pollock inspired paintings on: May 26, 2007 06:53:07 PM
i orginally posted this under home decorating projects.  thought i'd repost here to get more comments!

i purchased some blank canvases from michaels, cheapy bottles of acrylic paint, and a few paint brushes.  my boyfriend and i spent the last 2 days painting and splattering in our backyard.  it cost about $15 for the whole project!  i love how they turned out.  i found a new hobby; i'm hooked!   Grin

my boyfriend totally taking over my project, haha:

7  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / sconces! on: May 16, 2007 04:02:45 PM
 Huh
I received a pair of black wrought iron wall sconces for Christmas.  They are stars with a little ledge for a candle.  They are about 9 inches across.  I absolutely love them, but have no idea what kind of art (if any) to match them with, or how and where to hang them.  I'm in a new place with blank beige colored walls, with plenty of opportunity to hang them.  I just don't think 2 sconces would look good randomly hanging.  How should they be spaced and what would be good to hang with them?  Any help would be appreciated!
