1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: Your fiber storage set up on: March 27, 2006 02:21:36 PM
I too have a craft room/Library and I basically use the plastic bins as well - although I have used my little p-touch labeler and labeled everything so I know exactly what is in each bin - I now have about 100 lbs of fiber and I usually can find what I'm looking for pretty quickly.  I have also put up shelving to hold all of my plying threads/ cone yarns and other add ins - this way I can see them but they are up on the wall and organized.  Other than a full California Closet system especially designed for fiber I don't think I'll ever have the perfect system.
2  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: how big is your fiber stash? on: March 17, 2006 11:42:33 AM
Woo hoo this is fun!  At least I am not the only fiber freak!  Although Jacey most definitely got me beat!  You go girl.

Let's see I have:

4 lbs of Tussah Silk
1 lb Optim Merino and 6 more on the way
4 lbs of romney roving (got to meet the sheep it's from!)
2 lbs of mohair
2 lbs natural black baby aplaca unprocessed
1 lb baby fawn alpaca
10 lbs of various uncarded dyed wool
2 lbs natural mohair curls
1 lb cotton clouds
1 lb of cotton sliver
2 lbs falkland
4 lbs dyed merino - just dried and ready to be spun
2 lbs 80's merino
1 lb BFL
.5 lb of white baby alpaca
1 lb merino Tencel
2 lb of superwash merino

I Must order more plain merino because that's the backbone of my spinning!  I'm thinking of getting a 27 lb bump so I won't have to order for a while.  And I've got my eye on some seriously decadent 150's merino and more alpaca!

In addition to all of that I have about 25 lbs of Natural yarn for dyeing - and  a stash which is way way out of control!

I have the 2nd bedroom in my apartment as the Craft room - I store all my jewelry making supplies there too.

Question - for those of you who spin RH Lindsay wool - do you prefer the merino or the falklands - to me there isn't that much different in softness but I think the falklands is slightly easier to spin.  It doesn't seem to get as compressed as the merino in the dyeing process, so needs less predrafting....any thoughts?

3  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Electric Spinner on: February 28, 2006 10:40:30 AM
Does anyone have an electric spinner?  I've been looking at the Babe's Electric Bulky spinner...but haven't been able to find any reviews on it.  The bobbins hold 2 lbs of fiber and I think it would make plying a dream.

4  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: Louet spinning wheels on: November 09, 2005 08:44:03 AM
I have a louet s15 and I like it.  I'm getting the larger flyer and a bulky bobbin for plying cause I want skeins that are over 200 yards.  I think the louet is a good all around wheel you can spin bulky and fine and it never needs to be oiled.
5  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: yay!! im spinning singles!!!--- UPDATED-finished mittens added on: November 08, 2005 11:47:43 AM
I love self striping yarns!! then you don't have to weave ends in - I HATE weaving ends in.  Those mittens are too cute. and the yarn looks so soft and fluffy.
6  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Since there doesn't seem to be just one thread... on: November 08, 2005 11:46:16 AM
Both the yarn and the bag look great!  I really like the colors together.+
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / My Final Soctoberfest Socks on: November 08, 2005 10:50:46 AM
They are done! ok not by the end of october but pretty darn close.  These are my first pair of socks and now I am resdy for my next pair!

I'm going to see if I can spin up some sock yarn and then dye it so it is self striping for the next pair.

9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Buying Handspun/Hand dyed Yarn Online on: October 26, 2005 01:19:36 PM
Thanks Loretta!  Beware spinning is really addictive! I try and sell my yarn so I can afford to spin more!
