Details of swap:
...

This is a swap to give college students a chance to pamper and be pampered during finals.  Matches will be set up so that you receive your package during or as close to finals week as possible, but are finished crafting before your own finals.  We will be sending 2 mediums and 5 smalls, which gives a chance to do 1 large if you would like, and also the chance to send lots of small things such as tea or chocolate covered espresso beans (two of my favorite finals necessities) Hopefully everyone will get lots of time to craft, but if there are people who have their finals too soon after April 10th to have enough time to do all that just make a note of that in your questionnaire and we will either lower the crafting amount or partner you up before the end of sign-ups.

NECESSITIES: You must communicate frequently both with the group via the forum, and with your partner via private message.  If your partner doesn't communicate with you please inform one of the organizers so that we know and can take care of it.  Bad communication will merit a bad communication comment in your feedback.

You must be willing to post pictures of what you receive (if you own a camera), although considering the fact that this is based around finals, some lag time for finals to finish is acceptable.  Not posting in the gallery after you receive will also be noted in the comments in your feedback.

Also, please remember this is a crafting swap. Please remember to be courteous with your crafting and try not to bail out on the crafting time. We do understand that this swap is before finals and is an add to the workload, but we don't want any disappointment. So please, if you do not think you will have ample time, do not sign up and remember craft unto others as you would have crafted to you!  Wink

You must inform "elmpixie" when you have sent and received.  Including the DC# of your package

ONCE YOU HAVE RECEIVED YOUR PARTNER YOU MUST DISCUSS SEND-OUT DATES, WHETHER YOU WANT THEM BEFORE DURING OR AFTER YOUR FINALS.

IF YOU ARE SENDING AFTER MAY 10TH YOU MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST PM ELMPIXIE AND TELL HER YOUR PERSONAL SEND-OUT DATE.

MAY 10TH IS STILL THE CUT-OFF DATE FOR FEEDBACK ETC, SO YOU HAVE TO TELL ELMPIXIE OF YOUR DATE IF IT IS PAST THAT SO YOU DON'T GET BAD FEEDBACK!

PLEASE USE THE SUBJECT "College Finals Swap _______ (approval, question, sent or received) WITH ALL COMMUNICATION WITH EITHER ORGANIZER

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer "stitch and stones"

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Yet another irksome beret question post. on: December 09, 2007 12:27:02 AM
Hello all.

So, while completing all of my Christmas crafting, I started surfing (and lusting) for things to add to my list. While browsing the Urban Outfitters website, I came upon this beautiful slouchy beret made from chunky acrylic and is reversible. As you can imagine, I instantly fell in love. However, I did what all craftster hates to do and looked at the price. I am not willing to shell out 28 dollars for something that looks so simple.

From the pictures, I can see it's just a simple k1p1 rib. And I'm guessing it's also double knit to make it reversible.

However, seeing as I've only done scarves, simple hats and attempted a top down raglan, I'm lost as to how the increasing for knitting this would go, especially with ribbing. I've been looking all over for a pattern similar to this to give me an idea, but it still baffles me. Does anyone have any ideas on how to achieve this?

Obviously, I think for the nicer effect, a chunky, uneven yarn would work best to give it some character. What would you all recommend for this?

Lastly, I wouldn't want to add a band for this, just because I love how it looks without. Would elasticity be an issue? I know the ribbing would give some stretch, but I just don't know how much.

Any help you all can give me is so appreciated, especially if you all are taking time out of your holiday crafting to help little ol' me. Thanks in advance!
4  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Take Me To College (Amigurumi Dolls) on: July 28, 2007 02:15:01 PM
Hello all. This is actually my first ever craft post, so be gentle Smiley

For a while now, I've known that my boyfriend of almost two years and I were going to be attending two seperate colleges, about an hour and a half's drive away. I know, I know.... it's not terrible, but when coming from seeing each other constantly, and living a mere 3 miles apart, it is torture.

So, after joking back and forth about taking me with him, I decided I needed a way that he could. And thus mini versions of us were born!

Little me with him (awwwww....)

Little him with me. This little guy was finished five minutes before he arrived, so it's not the best, meaning you can kind of see the stuffing in him. Oh well, his was the one I really wanted to do well on.

And just for fun:

Thanks for looking!
5  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Disturbia Party Top? on: April 29, 2007 09:39:16 PM
Went to see "Disturbia" today and I couldn't help but notice the amazing top worn by Sarah Roemer in the party scene.

http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0486822/D06.jpg.html

My boyfriend thought I was crazy for getting excited about it.

What I was wondering was if anybody who has a passion for picking apart garments would be so kind as to share their talents with us to re create this top (because, quite frankly, I would die for it) and because I'm fairly sure it's crochet, just with fingering weight and a smaller hook.

Thanks to anyone who could help with this, or who could point me in hte right direction of a similar top.
6  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Dobby Hat Knitalong anyone? on: April 02, 2007 05:05:50 PM
Well, I'm a novice to everything knit, being a crocheter for so long. I was wondering if anyone would like to give me some company, and help when needed for this adorable pattern:

7  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / website pattern question. help would be lovely. on: March 20, 2007 10:16:18 PM
Traveling to New York City over Spring Break was amazing. However, losing my favorite crocheted hat was not. It was one of the saddest things I might have ever gone through. However, I wasn't terribly worried because I had assumed I had kept the pattern. Stupidly, my favorites list online had become deleted, so I am now worried I shall never have my beloved hippie hat back.

After much searching on Google, I was able to find the website, but no pattern. Huh. Either it has miraculously disappered or I am too ignorant to find it. I'm hoping it is not the latter.

Anyway, I was hoping one of you fine folks either has the patten, could take a quick look around the website for me or could just give me some advice. Any help is appreciated Smiley

i have looked through all of the archives and this is the only month I found that even mentions the hat.
