41  My crafting truth (kittykill, I swear this belongs in completed projects) in Needlework: Completed Projects by whateverjames on: December 31, 2008 04:03:20 PM
Work finally got busy so my crafting has slowed down but fortunately everyone thinks today is a holiday so I finally finished a bookmark I have wanted to make.

The idea came out of my fiancee teasing me for all of my ideas for my "next" projects while I still have so many other unfinished projects around the house. I've seen this on shirts so I thought it would be fun.

Not sure if the picture shows it but only about half the stitches on the final n are crossed   Grin

42  I'd Rather Be Watching M*A*S*H in Needlework: Completed Projects by whateverjames on: December 09, 2008 04:45:08 PM
Even though I was 3 when M*A*S*H went off the air I got in to it because my grandma used to tape every rerun and she had two boxes of 8hr tapes!!! I was watching some episodes on DVD the other night and knew I had to do this quote from Hawkeye to Frank!

I've wanted to use this bear from Julie Jackson's Subversive Cross Stitch for a while and they just seemed to go hand in hand. Sorry the pic is a little grainy. It's wider then most of the other projects I've done at work for this series and I am taking it with my phone  Roll Eyes.  Anyway, thanks for looking.

43  I'd Rather Be...um, Not Bombing (Language NSFW) in Needlework: Completed Projects by whateverjames on: December 04, 2008 10:35:16 PM
I didn't know what else to title this since "I'd Rather Be F*cking" was not the best choice since there is the NSFW warning.

I've wanted to stitch this one for a long time but the font has been such a strain for me. I'd like to say I'm gonna add an embellishment of some kind but I probably will not get around to it. So I think this one is done. Probably just something to stick in my binder of "not gifts"  Roll Eyes

44  I'd Rather Be Working At Dunder-Mifflin in Needlework: Completed Projects by whateverjames on: December 02, 2008 04:47:05 PM
Been pretty busy lately (read: yesterday) so this one took a little time.  I know that there are at least 7 craft-worthy quotes from The Office every week, 9 if Creed is in it, but this is one of my all time favorites because I am sure most of us have had a job where it's exactly what we were feeling/thinking/screaming on the inside!

I was hoping for a certain look with this one. Specifically I wanted it to look like something someone at Dunder-Mifflin scibbled on scratch paper when they should have been working.  I cut it from a much larger piece of fabric with two different scissors, thinking this is some scap left over from making a "paper" football or something. I didn't use a ring or other holder, instead held it reasonably tight in one hand while stitching with the other. I hope by over-handling the fabric and letting it flop around it got some kind of this-piece-of-paper-has-been-on-my-desk-for-a-while look. I chose this font since it was small and I could try to do it a little messy for a hand-written look.

Honestly this quote was the first thing that came to mind when I started my "I'd Rather Be..." project. I thought with no internet and no books being allowed if I could do THIS at work then it would be a personal victory given what it says and what it stands for. I just wasn't sure how to present it until the Dunder-Mifflin/paper idea hit me.   Tongue

45  I'd Rather Be Rich (one more 8-bit piece) in Needlework: Completed Projects by whateverjames on: November 29, 2008 09:00:33 PM
Ok, so a little Saturday overtime after the holiday. I knew I didn't have a ton of time to do a bigger project but wanted to keep the streak alive.

I've always like the character Wario and his outlook that winning the game is just a by-product of collecting coins and getting paid  Cheesy  So even though he was never in an 8-bit game I figured he would be a great companion to my Mario and Luigi pieces...plus the phrase was just perfect for his character.

I promise this is my last exploitation of my Mario chart (I promise nothing)!!! As always, thanks for looking

46  I'd Rather Be Writing You A Love Song in Needlework: Completed Projects by whateverjames on: November 26, 2008 06:41:05 PM
Ok, this is for the woman who has everything...or at least my heart!

Me and my wife to be originally dated in high school when I was 14-16 and we even ran away together. There was a "kidnaping incident" that resulted in us having to go our separate ways - isn't that what breaks up all teen romances?

We both got married, had families and eventually found each other again. The daughter we have together is the little one in my photo. I wanted to stitch her something that spoke of the 13 years I have been waiting to have her back in my life. When coming up with the idea for this project over 6 months ago I decided it was a great line for a song (Shameless plug alert) a demo of which can be found at www.myspace.com/whateverjamesdoesnotrock

I started and finished it today thinking it would be perfect for my "I'd Rather Be..." project. Turns out she had a bad day so it was perfect for that too! And I finished it with 11 minutes to spare!  Sorry for all the words. Here's the pic:

Ok, my first "companion piece". I thought Mario needs his wing man and I had it! The picture's not that great but I took it with my phone at work. I think there will be an 8-bit Wario one next week if work stays slow. I actually have some projects plan.

Side note: Thanks for all the support with this silly "I'd Rather Be..." project. Its becoming more fun then I thought it would be!!!

Ok, work is still pretty slow so here is a new addition for my I'd Rather Be "project". Already started tomorrow's project, and got some really funny stuff planned, but this may be my favorite so far. Cheesy

50  I'd Rather Be Watching The Big Bang Theory in Needlework: Completed Projects by whateverjames on: November 20, 2008 07:45:51 AM
So even though we are insanely slow at work the actions of a few questionable minds have forced my employer to revoke our internet privleges. For some reason they decided to say no books either  Cry

So, after combing through all the new codes of conduct and being 100% sure there is nothing about crafting, I am starting a "series" of very small projects for things I would rather be doing then sitting at work staring at my keyboard for an hour and a half. There won't be anything extravagant as I hope each project will only take a day - I'm sure there is a message in that somewhere!

So first up: a quote from my new favorite TV series, The Big Bang theory. Thanks.
