1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Dollhouse Furniture on: January 27, 2013 10:42:02 PM
I've been away for a very long time but it's cool to be back Smiley I'm also happy to share my latest.
We gave my daughters a dollhouse bookcase (bought) for Christmas but I was determined to do the furniture myself. I love the simplicity of Waldorf playthings, so I sort of styled these in that manner. This is an in-progress shot of the kitchen and part of the living room. I used balsa wood and lots of online tuts, lol. More to come!

2  COOKING / Dessert / Butterfly Birthday cupcakes! on: July 23, 2008 10:37:26 PM
My daughter's first birthday was all butterfly themed where we even released REAL butterflies, so i had to make these when i saw them. they are my very first attempt at cupcakes:

and the birthday girl who got no cake, but got to eat half a cupcake Smiley

ETA: here's the link to how to make the butterflies Cheesy

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Kitten Hat and Wee Wig (Hallowig) - ala baby size :D on: January 23, 2008 01:12:20 PM

a little hallowig from knitty (the "wee wig"):

and my little one's kitten hat (kittyville):

tee hee! i love tiny hats Smiley

Edited to add: a detail of the flower, tute to come Cheesy
4  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Adult: The (baby) Monarch Butterfly and the (mama) Twig She Landed On on: October 31, 2007 11:46:30 AM
Originally posted here.

I made everything here except for two things: the baby carrier itself, which i did not feel comfortable making myself, as my baby's safety is my number one priority. However, I did make the skin that went over the baby carrier Smiley I also didn't make the tracksuit... i hope that doesn't disqualify me!

Here we are, The Monarch Butterfly and the Twig She Landed On:

The skin by itself:

Us together in full costume:

Teeny tiny antannae for my little bug, hand crocheted by me:

Overexposed side view:

i don't know if I should be in the child's or adults' contest, since technically, we are a tandem costume, but since my baby is 5 months old and those bracelets aren't going to fit her for another at least 5 years, i was wondering if i could enter the adult costume contest?
5  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / The Monarch Butterfly (and the Twig She Landed On) on: October 31, 2007 01:38:40 AM
I don't much have time for anything anymore, what with a 5 month old, grad school, contract work and personal swaps, but Halloween is a must in this house.  What's more, it's my little one's FIRST halloween. so she HAD to be well costumed Smiley We originally had a chili pepper costume made by the fabulous ptarmic wampus that we got in a swap but as my little girl is tall and lean she's both swimming in it width wise and too long to fit in it properly (don't know how that happened!) so i decided to make her costume myself. so i made her a Monarch Butterfly. And I'm the Twig She Landed On. Cheesy we debuted it at the Boo at the Zoo SF last saturday! it was a hit. also, i decided to make it to fit one of her baby carriers (a beco) and it was super comfy for her 'cause all she was wearing was a long sleeved onesie, some babylegs, and a black socks. here it is!

The full costume (i'm wearing a brown tracksuit as my twig costume):

She wore an antennae headband, crocheted by me:

Overexposed side view, but it shows the beco really well:

Another at the pumpkin patch:

We'll be wearing it tomorrow night too for her first trick or treat night! Smiley

Details of swap:

This swap idea is simple: embellish a onesie or a lap tee for your partner according to their tastes Smiley You can use anything to embellish: stencils, embroidery, sewing, etc. You can embellish between one and three onesies (and your partner will reciprocate with the same number of onesies). Please, keep your crafting limited to only the onesies/ lap tees; the reason for this is that if you have a little one, you have limited craft time (even if you have loads of craftime, your partner may not)... we want this swap to be low-stress for everyone.

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Embellished Onesie for your Little One Swap?? on: July 17, 2007 03:05:58 PM
Anyone interested in embellishing a onesie for a partner? i'm thinking of organizing this as i am currently baby crazy (mine is only 6 weeks)

we could do anywhere from 1 to 3 onesies, up to the partners. pretty low-stress, but should be fun!

also could be great for people who aren't necessarily having the baby but want shower gifts and such Smiley

10  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / (one more) Star Afghan on: March 18, 2007 01:27:33 PM
I finished this a couple of weeks ago and just got around to weaving in the ends. Here it is (with water bottle for scale):

my star afghan was certainly a pain to make! it took up a lot of yarn and felt like it took FOREVER. i am not a good gauge as to whether or not anyone should make one because i don't like making blankets in general; it's just this one was so cool! it's for my baby (to be born in june) in her nursery colors Smiley i made it to 23 rounds (i ran out of yarn and decided that it was big enough) and the pattern i used was here: http://www.angelfire.com/va3/heartfeltangels/littlestarafghan.html
