I'm into feng shui and Japanese mythology, does that count? Tongue
2133  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: What kind of ruffler foot do I need? on: July 04, 2009 02:29:28 AM
Ya, 40 bucks. I'd read somewhere that the $19 Janome high-shank ruffler was junk, and then the dealer guy said the exact same thing. I know, I know, he wants to sell me stuff, but I'm inclined to believe him, especially since the one I intend to buy is a clip-on, so it can go on both low- and high-shank machines (in case I get a new machine someday that has a low-shank).

Did DaisyAlly ever get her hands on one?
2134  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Help... Just got a Sewing machine. What project should I do first? on: July 04, 2009 02:18:21 AM
I haven't done any of those patterns yet, but I have a couple I want to try. I have too many things on my list of want-to-do, darnit Tongue
2135  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Preventing Clear Vinyl from ripping on: July 04, 2009 02:13:31 AM
I made a tight mini-skirt out of thin black vinyl and it was HARD, and I mean BLOODY HARD to rip my test-piece apart when using polyester thread on my longest stitch. It streeeeeeeetched before finally perforating/ripping apart.

/2 cents
2136  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: what would you make with t-shirt yarn? on: July 04, 2009 02:09:31 AM
I was planning to try crocheting a scarf out of t-shirt yarn, but I think a super-bulky comfy sweater would be cool too Cheesy
2137  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: So I want to make some sailor pants... on: July 04, 2009 02:00:47 AM
That's the one! Ruby has the buttons up the side Tongue Sorry I didn't go grab the link for ya, I was in a hurry and shouldn't have been on the comp at all, teehee! I hope it works out for you, cuz I'd like to give it a try myself Cheesy
2138  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: hoodie pattern? on: July 03, 2009 08:51:28 PM
Lydia on BurdaStyle can be altered into a hoodie (don't use the hood pattern that is posted on there, it was horrible, sorry to the person who drafted it). Just trace a hood onto paper and make sure the length of the neck part matches up to the length of the neck on the shirt pattern (measuring tapes are your friend Tongue). I think Lydia is 3 bucks and it worked out great for me. Just make it one or two sizes smaller than what it says if you're using a t-shirt fabric and want it to fit close to your body. If you're using sweatshirt fabric and want it somewhat loose, use the size it tells you to, based on your measurements.

Also, once you have something that works really good, trace it onto bristle-board, that thin cardboard for making... the backdrop for a science fair project. You know? The cardboard will survive many many additional tracings better than paper.
2139  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: men's vest on: July 03, 2009 08:44:11 PM
I think there might be a vest pattern on BurdaStyle, they have several men's patterns now. If you draft one yourself, get a second hand dress shirt that fits the man to butcher, cuz tees are stretchy.

There's a how-to/pattern on BurdaStyle. I think what you want is the Ruby shorts. Designed by a member, so it's free.
