I love pins. I love the way they don't get tangled in stuff like necklaces can. Well, now I have another one. Yay!

Banana731 made this lovely crochet bird pin for me. It's starched to keep it nice and upright. Ain't he lovely?  Grin

(well, more lovely than my naughty scanner)

Oh, and I'm a Rene Magritte/surrealism tragic, so the card she made (or, not a card Smiley) was perfect!

Thank you so much! It's lovely!

I heart Melmakespretty. Just putting that out there.

I love China and I love china. She sent this fantastic Chinese porcelain patch and I adore it.

Oh, and I'm obsessive about tea. Perfect much?

And, in my favourite colour!

Cool, huh?

And since she's so lovely, Mel also included the other Chinese porcelain embroideries! I think these deserve to be in little hoops. I might just do that.

Look what I got from Rene24601!

It's a sweet zip pin brooch. I love pins to decorate my clothes and coats and this is a very happy addition to my collection. She also sent some mini chocolates. I've never had a Three Muskateers before (similar to a Mars bar?) and it was yummy.

I'll wear the pin tomorrow Smiley Thank you so much

That is insanely quick! So pleased he got there fast.

The background is watercolour with salt sprinkled on to give it that effect. The salt absorbs some of the water and therefore leaves dark marks where it is and light patch around. I brushed some of it off but left some if you want a bit of sparkle. Otherwise just brush it all off, it won't hurt the paint or paper at all. You can also trim the edges if you like but I left them in case you wanted to mat it (which it seems you do!).

I didn't frame it because sending glass that far would require a thousand layers of bubble wrap and I just thought that wouldn't work. Hope that's ok!

I also got mail today. From the lovely scarlet_nights

Please excuse the out of focus pic. I'll take a better one tonight when I get home.
It's a crafty ninja and I think it will be living on my desk at work. I'm an art/textiles teacher so I deal a lot with pointy objects. Outside school hours I'm a karate teacher (and wannabe invisible ninja... Smiley) This is a lovely combination! Thank you so much.

Nilmerg's patches arrived! Smiley Happy dance

She also included some fun pieces of fabric and some charms attached to a Chinese 1 mao/jiao note. I may have swapped that withher in the past and it was a real kick to see them again. I had so many of them and they're worth almost nothing so I used to stick a few in all my swap packages when I lived in China. Happy memories.

I scanned the patches and I'm not really happy with the colours. They're very vibrant and the backs are just perfect. Thanks Nilmerg!

16  Re: The Sketchbook Project 2012. Discount coupon code in first post! in Craftalongs by schnerby on: January 05, 2012 07:22:28 PM
So my book is packed up and ready to go.

I made the covers and cut, ironed and hemmed the calico pages but I was waiting on my content. I undertook a photography project in a Delhi slum where the kids (14 boys aged 10-13) took photos with disposeable cameras and I had them developed. These were the first photos the kids had taken and formed their families only photo albums. The photos were candid, beautiful and showed what the kids valued (family, friends, neighbourhood, their TV and their shrines/temples mostly).

I sewed photos into the book with a quick intro about what the kids had done. This was a highely rewarding project and I'm so glad I did it.

I'm very close to the 1 inch thickness thing, although if you hold it in your hand it goes down below one inch. It's only over if sitting flat on a table. I really hope that won't be a problem!

Here's some pics of the final construction. The blue fabric was block printed by a woman in the same slum so it felt good to include that.

17  Re: Fabric Jewelry Swap GALLERY! Send by 12/15 in The Swap Gallery by schnerby on: January 04, 2012 06:01:53 PM
Julianapegas is very talented!!  Grin

My package arrived today and I'm blown away by her skill and attention to detail.

This pin is stunning. The back pin is sewn on very securely and I love the design. This one will be worn a lot!

She also sent this gorgeous crochet bookmark. It's too lovely to hide inside a book so I'll eaither pin it up on my desk pinboard so I can see it or find a way to attach it to a jacket or bag. Lovely.

Thanks organising team. This has been a great swap.

I've been very late on the picture posting. Sorry! Lifew has been out of control for the past few weeks and I'm only now catching up.

KwiltyKate sent me these fabulous socks. I couldn't photograph them on my feet without making it look like alien porn, so please deal with the feet-free images Smiley

They are a very lovely swirly blue (with cables... exciting) and they fit really well. Not too bulky so I can wear them with normal shoes. Yes, I wear hand knitted 'bed' or 'house' socks as if they were normal socks. They're warm, ok?

I'm in awe of anyone who can knit. Knitting won the war with me, so thanks Kate!

Sadly I think it is an 8 inch hoop. I wanted a 7 inch to match your collection, but that's the closest Clegs had. I went with the cm measurement, did a little calcualtion in my head and figured it was as close as I was going to be able to find. I had fun making it though.

I'm also in job application mode for next year and have my heart set on two jobs. I hope I get an interview at least...

Here's a photo of Oodelally's mug rug she sent. I really like it and find it hard to believe she iasn't quilted before. The photo is a bit duller than the real life colours.

Hooray for clothes that fit. It's not easy buying a shirt for someone else!

I took camera phone pics, so they're not the clearest shots ever. My parents are in Mauritius with my good camera, and my small one is playing up. Hope these will do for now. Nilmerg, please feel free to post better pics.

These pilllowslips have purple patchwork bits across the top and buttons orbiting the bit wher you insert the pillow. Like the technical terms?  Grin The purple is really lovely and these will go on my pillows very soon.
