221  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Sewing a wedding gown - Eek! on: February 19, 2007 06:49:00 PM
The best site I know for making corsets is http://www.elizabethancostume.net/custompat/index.html. I've never known a wedding dress to have a train that you "tack up". I would advise a skirt without a train or one with one and then change into another skirt/pant on the way to the reception.

    • my best guess is that it's some type of cotton, she doesn't say what fabric it is. Undecided
    • the dress isn't lined.
    • I know it would be easier to get another dress but once you've see the dress you may understand. I'm set on wearing a fifties type dress and they're so hard to find! I've found one site that sells them other than ebay.
thank you for all of your feedback! please continue  Smiley[/list]

(I'm new here and hope this is in the right thread..)
So I bought this dress on ebay and I love it dearly but it's waist is high (it's fifties style) and my problem isn't that it's high but that the waist seam is so tight. my other problem is that the top of the dress is boned, making it bow out further than my chest actually protrudes. I tried messaging the maker of the dress, asking her what I should do and she never replied back. I'm not "sewing litterate" but if I could get advice of what to do to the dress to fix it, I could take it to someone that knows sewing and ask them to do it.
I can't give you a picture (I could give you a url if you'd really like) because I am so new. My dress has a zipper in the back.
thank you for any advice! <3
