2  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Winter Chunky House swap - Sendouts 18 Nov on: October 24, 2010 08:14:13 AM
For all you Chunky House papercrafting devotees on Craftster - another chance to show your skills and build up your cardboard cities Smiley
This theme will ask you to name the type of winter theme you would like - any winter festival, or maybe The Snow Queen, Mystical winter stories...whatever you fancy.

If you participate in this swap you will need to be prepared to do a bit of research if you are given a subject that isn't that familiar to you - but I will do my best to match partners who want the same theme as much as possible.

Not sure what a chunky house is?? Check out the swap galleries on here for other themed swaps and also the Papercrafting board for info.

Don't forget that I am in the UK and a lot of you will be in the USA - so there will be slight time difference - so your evening is my middle of the night for example - i will be operating on GMT for timing for this swap.

I've copied the rest from a former chunky house swap as it explains how they are made really well:

In this swap, participants will be put into groups of 5. Each member of the group will make and send out one house, decorated front and back (embellish, embellish, embellish!), to each person in your group.  Houses should be sturdy enough to stand when attached to other houses, so please select a sufficiently sturdy base material to work with.  Each house should measure between 3" to 4" wide, and should be no taller than 7".

Because this is a papercraft swap, dc numbers are not required, but if for some reason your chunky house does not arrive at its destination, you will be required to re-send.

Communication is very important! If you wish to join, please put "Winter Chunky houses" in your signup PM. You are required to send me a PM when you send and receive your houses. Failure to do this will be reflected in your feedback. Also, everyone who signs up for the swap MUST post in this thread!

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / The New Moon bag on: July 24, 2009 09:28:50 AM
A revamped piece of cross stitch (unfortunately I can't remember the designer - it was bought at elegantstitch.com years ago) that used to be in my eldest son's bedroom. He had a space theme and fitted in nicely - until he grew out of it and had a skateboard one instead LOL!
I was making a bag for a librarian degree student - she needed something sturdy enough to carry her study books and a little knitting project around in. She is also MAD about the Twilight book series - so my sad little moon picture had a new home! The tote is made from old upholstery fabric lined with very fancy medieval style silky fabric (was trying to get a gothic look!) and the picture was machine stitched on.

4  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / Post your completed Alphabet ATC swaps here on: July 08, 2009 08:21:31 AM
Thought I'd start a topic for us to show off our complete alphabets as I know several of us have just completed ours.
Here is mine - can you spot your cards?

They have gone into a box frame that is on my kitchen wall.
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Bagpuss/Clangers/Oliver Postgate Swap? UK only probably? on: January 12, 2009 04:04:59 AM
I feel an urge to celebrate the life of Oliver Postgate by doing an ultra cute smallfilms swap - so many crafty ideas in those adorable films..big knitted Bagpuss, a Madeleine doll, wooden owls, felt mice, felt or knitted clangers.
Or am I the only 40 something UK saddo who appreciates them???
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Lucinda Guy's Wildflower Sweater for DD on: January 06, 2009 06:11:00 AM
I cast on last January and after much procrastinating I finally finished it last night. The colourwork was EVIL! there was no way I was going to do the same on the back so it is plain Smiley It took 2 evenings to sew all the the loose threads in and another to embroider the flowers with french knots and stem stitch (hard to see in the pic). Anyway it fits Smiley and I never have to knit it again!!!
BTW - pattern from Lucinda Guy's 'Handknits for Kids' book

and DD 'posing'

Forgot to add - the neck is too wide, but discovered this complaint on various discussion groups after I'd knitted and blocked the pieces Sad She will need a t shirt underneath I think.
7  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 33 ENTRIES / Pink Princess Perfection! (Pic obese) on: December 05, 2008 08:37:13 AM
My first time entering a challenge - so be gentle with me!
I present the Pink Princess Desk and Chair!

I always make at least one 'practical' item for the kids each Christmas or Birthday as we rebuilt our house when we bought it 4 years ago and it still has a long way to go.
My littlest one was born right in the middle of the building chaos and her room has been a hotchpotch of hand me down furniture and has never seemed quite 'her' really. I decided she needed a princess desk and chair to fit her title (see my avatar!) and I raided her pile of 'Disney Princess' magazines and got to work.
The desk was an old one of my mother in laws that was seriously wobbly and needed a bit of DIY to hold it all together. It has been painted and decoupaged once already - but DD managed to soak it with water and ruin it - so it was sanded down again and redone. I added the MDF trim at the sides - the only item I actually bought - 3.50! I also cut the straps short on a pretty bag I got in a swap and added snaps to it so it attached to the chair and holds a book or colouring pens.
The original desk...

I then did the same to a chair that had been put out in a skip (dumpster) by her day nursery. The images are applied and then sealed with mod podge - and is completely wipeable.
The original chair...

I also painted a wooden blank frame that I bought from SuperU in France on holiday - they are fantastic for craft items (if I wasn't flying home I'd have bought tons more!) - it is varnished with sparkle Modpodge (a subtle glitter finish) and I had the beads in my stash.

As it has been a race against time I've not had time to finish the picture frame with ribbons stretched across it to then clip her artwork onto - I might add it later to complete the set!(and take photos of a tute to go with it.)
Hope you like it!
PS - For anyone interested the paint I used is Cath Kidston Furniture paint - water based and child friendly.

8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Mixed media Mermaid on: October 11, 2008 09:42:08 AM
I've had this sitting waiting to be framed for countless years - I just found it in the 'artwork finished but no idea what to do with box' under the stairs and realised it was actually quite good!
total mix media - blue silk background. Cotton batik 'waves' with chain stitch in metallic thread. Cut up sequins into starfish shapes and couched them on with extra glued on stars. The figure was sketched onto calico then stain stitched with cotton floss, couched gold thread hair and the scales are made of layered sequins. I then cut it out carefully and slip stitched it to the background.

9  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / The Issa 'Lucky' Dress on: July 23, 2008 03:07:16 AM
This an adorable dress - has anyone seen a pattern that would be adaptable?

10  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Offer what you have swap - July 08 on: July 04, 2008 01:45:31 AM

or  b) want to de-stash supplies or
or  c) enjoy making things for other people
...then this swap is for you! It's a lot like the Ongoing Wish Swap, except instead of posting what you want to receive, you'll post what you want to give.  To join you must have at least five things that you have made/would like to make/want to trade.

This is an ongoing swap, feel free to join up at any time this month! To join, first send a Personal Message to organizer sajona with the following questionnaire info. Once you are approved, you are free to claim something from the most recent list posted, and then post your own list.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap:offer what you have swap July
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address including the country:
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country?:
Confirm that are at least 18 years old (yes/no):
Your list of at least five items (crafts you can make/have ready-made or details of supplies you wish to offer):

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.  http://craftster.org/swapsinfo.html

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is an ongoing swap: Claim an item from the list of the last person who posted, and post your own list in response. It makes a chain. When we get to the end of the month, the very last person to post a list will be the first person to post a list at the beginning of the next month, if Craftsters decide to organize a new round at that time.

At the top of your claim post, state how many claims you have made this month, and how many of those are outstanding (i.e. the recipient has not yet received the item).

Claims:4
Claims Allowed (Outstanding):3
Sendouts Not Sent:1
Sendouts Sent:2
Sendouts in Transit:1
Sendouts Received:1

Remember your outstanding claim limit for this round:
Friend of Craftster: Three (become a Friend of Craftster!)
First-Time Swapper: One
Everyone Else: Two

This is how many pending at a time you may have. As soon as one of your packages is received then you may claim again.

Your list of offerings: if your list stays up for more than 48 hours before someone claims from it, you must add something to it. You can also allow claimers to add more items together to make a claim (i.e. they don't seem to be biting on your earrings, so now they can take two pairs for a single claim instead of just one.) If you are having trouble coming up with stuff to add, consider offering a small item to be custom made for the person who claims from you. This can be conditioned on using stash items if you wish. Remember that it must be something that you can complete in two weeks, unless your partner agrees otherwise.

Once someone claims from you, you have two weeks to get the package in the mail.  Please contact the organizer by personal message when you send the package and when you receive a package so everyone gets credit.

ALSO: Please make sure to post to the discussion thread so you stay up on any updates! http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=223906.0
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do not sign up unless you are willing to send outside of your country.

Check out the previous rounds if you need help figuring out the scope of what to put on your list. It is typically in the $5-$15 range, from a half a yard to a couple yards of fabric depending on weight and fanciness, crafted accessories, grab bags of yarn, beads, buttons and notions, things of that nature.

Photos and the Gallery: Whenever possible, include pictures of the items you're offering in your posts. When you receive, it is important for you to thank your partner, be courteous and communicative, but a lot of the items are premade or stash, so posting pictures in the Gallery isn't crucial. The exception to this is when something is custom-made for you in this swap. And if you make something with supplies you receive in this swap, we want to see it!

Delivery Confirmation numbers are mandatory for people in the U.S. sending to other people in the U.S., and everyone else must keep their receipts.

This round of the swap will close around midnight, on the official Craftster clock, July 31st. Feedback will be given on August 1st for all participants who have no pending claims. Everyone whose packages haven't been received will get feedback once the package reaches its destination.

Reminders/Summary:
1. Make sure to PM both me and who you sent to when you send out, with DC number if you are both in US.
2. Make sure to PM both me and who you receive from when you receive.
3. As soon as you claim something from someone, shoot them a PM with your address so that they have it and don't have to chase you down later.
4. Lets keep this swap moving, try to stay on top of adding new things/combining items into one claim if your list stays up more than a couple days.
5. Post pics in the gallery if someone makes you something custom or you make something from supplies you receive. http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=137907.0
6. Lets try to keep this thread for lists as much as possible to save on confusion. If your list is up, you may post a "bump" after you have added something new/combined your items, but otherwise please try to post all questions/comments/requests/whatever into our  discussion thread

Please note -  I need a co-organiser for the last week and into August to finish off feedback - please PM me if you can help.
