1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Lady Gaga Costume (on the inappropriate side) on: November 01, 2009 07:40:29 PM
So I made my friend this really bangin' lady gaga costume that I myself would never wear and would definitely never consider letting my hypothetical daughter wear, but I'm still pretty proud of how it turned out. Especially because i put it off until the very last minute and made it in under two hours.

anyway hurr it is!

if this is too scandalous for anybody can you please tell me how to censor the image, because that is a feature of craftster ive never had any occasion to use and im not sure how it goes.

this one is on a duffle bag.. it's not quite as nice as my super-hot backpickle but i'm pretty partial to it.

the inspiration came from this $33 american apparel duffle:

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Crowning accomplishment of my sewing career + GIANT ZIPPER! on: February 04, 2009 05:08:54 PM
So, last year I made myself a bookbag for school. It was disproportionate, hastily made, and kind of ugly. Sadly I didn't like it enough for pictures, so you just try to picture an ugly, crap-made bag. I was discouraged, but used it for about six months before it started to fall apart. Sad Sad . Still, I liked having a bag I made, and using a retail backpack made me feel boring.

Fate smiled on me, and my clone-bag started tearing on the bottom. Terrified of it ripping and all of my stuff falling down the stairs during passing-time rush.. I set about making BAG THE II!

The bag:

The back: (Straps read: LIZMAT and Liz Mat Sews, in a blatant tribute to MEEEE)

The Pockets:

The Big:

The Zipper:

(IT COULD EAT YOU FOR BREAKFAST!)

Oblig. Action Shoooot:

Needless to say, I'm really proud. I didn't know I could produce such a quality product.. like, I rocked my own pants off. I don't mean to seem too into myself.. but it's a really huuge accomplishment for me. (Also everyone talks about it at school, and that is what matters in life)

LOTS OF LOVE,
LIZMAT
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / a month of sewin' --> many pictures on: November 03, 2008 08:13:17 PM
I found out about three weeks ago that I needed to put together a portfolio for a Nat'l Portfolio Review day at MCAD, so I've spent the past 18 days or so sewing almost nonstop, to throw together something for feedback.

But I must be needy, because I want my fellow craftsters' feedback as well. Please give me any comments/criticisms for the portfolio. I'll only post pieces I haven't posted on here before, and of course any advice would be helpful (translation: tear me to pieces and make me cry, because I want to improve!)

5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Is this possible? Newbie needs help! Metallurgy/Pendant-making on: August 02, 2008 11:54:53 PM
A while ago I had a St Francis pendant that I wore EVERYWHERE, but it was poor quality and eventually got too gross for my neck. I've been browsing for a replacement, and came across

http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=00905X&kw=00905X&en=froogle&p=1013824

which has the first line from the prayer of St francis written on it.

"Lord let me be an instrument of thy peace"

Anyway, I was hoping to find a pendant with both those words and the image of my favorite saint, but it's proving near impossible to do.

Would it be possible for me to make this on my own? I know near-nothing about jewelry making. Help me out!

I was thinking something along the lines of a heartshaped pendant with the image on the front and words on the back, or a circular one with the words on the border surrounding the image.

Plz help : (, this would be something very special to me.
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Back to School: Wardrobe Discussion on: August 02, 2008 11:40:55 AM
August is come, and with it comes the whisper of back-to-school fervor.

I don't know about any of you still-in-school craftsters, but personally, I've never been satisfied with the standard jeans+tshirt school combo, and I've been thinking about putting together a stylish self before school starts.

So let's chat. What composes your dream wardrobe? How much of your school clothing comes from your one-woman/man basement-factory? Where do you get your style inspiration?
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / "it's hippie-chic!" $2 dress on: June 14, 2008 10:56:08 AM
((silly quote is from a friend.))

So yesterday I went on a biking-escapade with my cycling buddy and we stopped at a kitschy antique store "cellar door," where I picked up this amazing fabric for $2, it's some sort of weird, old-lady texture that if I knew more about fabric i could tell you about.

Anyway,

later that night:

(whoo, it's been a long time, I almost forgot how to incorporate images into forum posts.)

8  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / sequins? on: November 14, 2007 03:48:46 PM
I was flipping through a magzine when i came across these beauties:

http://www.jildorshoes.com/images/products/ConverseCtOxBlkSeq_Front_300.jpg

(they have them in red and white as well, as you can see on the website www.converse.com (just search sequins))

BUT! Because I stopped wearing Converse when I found out Nike had bought them, and the 85 dollar price tag, I want to know the best way to uh, make them on my own.

See, I have the feeling if I glued them they would all fall off, and sewing would be a bitch to do...

any ideas craftsters?
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Earmuffs? HELllllP! on: November 12, 2007 05:12:43 PM
Dear Craftster,

I need you so bad right now. My brother's birthday is today (!), and I gave him a jingle to ask what I can make him. And he said he wants minnesota-winter combatting earmuffs to coordinate his wardrobe.

How do I make earmuffs?
And cool ones at that, he's quite the style snob.
Helphelphelp.

Love,
Elizabeth
10  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Those rubber bracelets that are for causes? on: November 04, 2007 09:40:44 AM
What do I do with them? Similar to the livestrong bands (think: http://waroc.files.wordpress.com/2006/12/livestrong_wristband.jpg), everybody has a band now for their causes and beliefs, and i've got a collection of like, three. (Huge, I know.)

What can I do with them? They are for things that I can support, but I'm not really into bracelets, especially that style of them.
