Ahh, what cool (and tiny!) crafts everyone is making and receiving!

My package came from SiakelA came today, and it's so cool! Check it ouuuut!

It's a sweet embroidery of her owl Archimedes delivering my acceptance letter to Hogwarts!!
And a kind of detail shot:

Probably the coolest thing about this is that the little letter comes out of the owls claws!
LOOK HOW TINY IT IS!

And SiakelA left some fabric in the back of the hoop, in case I wanted to use it as a patch or something instead of hanging it on the wall. So smart, right?! I don't know which option I'm going to go for just yet, but I'm leaning towards putting him above my sewing machine!

Thanks so much SiakelA!!

2  Crabby Baltimore Sweater (with Fair Isle Chart!) in Knitting: Completed Projects by Quinndustrious P. on: June 13, 2012 05:58:55 AM
Hey there, ladies and gents!

Thought I'd pop by to share this sweater before putting it away for the summer...I actually finished it probably a year ago, but never got around to photographing it! It was my first big fair isle project, and I gotta say, I think I'm hooked!

detail shots:

and a photo to show the whole thing, as well as how I feel when wearing it:

Pattern: "The Life Aquatic" from Debbie Stoller's "Superstar Knitting"--I loved the shape of the sweater, and had been wanting to try out a fair isle yoke for ages, but the original had fish on it! Fish frankly kind of freak me out, so I couldn't see myself immortalizing them on a sweater, but I dug the marine theme...so i stuck some Baltimore crabs on it! Well, they're just crabs, but I hail from Baltimore, so that's what I'll be calling them.  And since drawing up the charts for them was such a fun challenge, I re-charted the entire yoke, adding some seaweedy sort of plantlife as well. And I love it so much!

Yarn: I had loads of "french vanilla" lion brand microspun lying around from a frogged project, and it fit close enough to the prescribed yarn, so I went with that! The colors are mostly done in simply soft, I think...

Here's a kind of boring photo of what it looks like flat...

Overall I'm really pleased with it, much more than I normally am with sweaters I make!
It fits and feels nice, and people always ask me about it!
Maybe that's because it's not every day you see a sweater with crabs on it....

Anyway, thanks for checking it out!
And if you haven't taken a look at Superstar Knitting, I definitely recommend it!
Lotta great patterns in there, time to pick which to knit up next!

UPDATE:
Thanks for the kind words, everyone! Here's the chart I designed, feel free to use it if you'd like! I would love any crabby projects you make with it, please PM me if you've used it!  Cheesy

3  Re: Felt Badge Swap Gallery!! (Send Out April 30) in The Swap Gallery by Quinndustrious P. on: April 22, 2012 10:55:31 AM
I am just LOVING all these badges you guys are making!
But, I gotta say it, (and I might be a Wee Bit partial, haha), I love the badge I received from Bunnie Boo the most!
Day of the Dead and owls were among the interests I listed, and she made a simply fantastic badge combining the two!
Just look at this baby!

Not only is it beautifully embroidered with rainbow thread, it's also got paint AND beads/sequins!
I am in serious awe of her skills!

It arrived in all its glory a few days ago, and I can't stop looking at it! I was going to sew it to my backpack, but I might just have to put a pin-back on it so it's not restricted to just one of my bags!

Thanks so much Bunnie Boo!!

Would anybody be interested in a Wes Anderson Swap?!? I could organize or co-organize, depending on the timeline!
I'm thinking sooner rather than later, if there's enough interest!

5  "Weasley is Our King" Badge in Needlework: Completed Projects by Quinndustrious P. on: July 29, 2011 04:30:35 PM
Hi there, everyone!

I just wanted to show you this soft fabric badge I made for sKooKuM in the Deathly Hallows Part II swap--I'm pretty dang proud of it, and will probably make another for myself!

It's pretty small, only a few inches wide. I stitched it on some re-purposed silvery shirting fabric using split stitch, then backed it with dark green felt and sewed a pin finding thing onto it so it's wearable!

Let me know what you think!

6  Re: Pushing Daisies Round 3 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Quinndustrious P. on: July 29, 2011 04:07:17 PM
I received an EXCELLENT package from scuttlebutt today!
It was the perfect end to a loooong day of babysitting.
Check out the goods--I guarantee you'll be jealous!
The package started out with a great card (not pictured) that said: "The facts were these...."  Perfect, right?!

The first thing I pulled out were these great bee earrings made out of buttons--I love them!

Next I pulled out some Burt's Bees lip balm (which I love) and some great bee-themed recipe cards, three of which had recipes from the Pie Hole on them!! I can't wait to make them!

Next came this wonderfully distressed Darling Mermaid Darlings wooden plaque, which will be displayed prominently in my apartment this coming fall.

And that's not it...there's more! Yep, scuttlebutt seriously spoiled me!

Next was an awesome stenciled totebag decorated with one of my favorite quotes from the show, and a little Pigby detail on the corner of the other side!

And last, but MOST DEFINITELY not least (this might just be my favorite!), a framed bee cross-stitch!
I've never received a cross-stitched anything before, so this is great! I love the honeycomb detail!

So, there it all is! Can you believe this was scuttlebutt's first swap? I am blown away by this package!
Thanks so much, scuttlebutt! It's been a real pleasure swapping with you!

7  "Home is Wherever I'm with You" Hot Air Balloon in Needlework: Completed Projects by Quinndustrious P. on: July 18, 2011 10:45:55 AM
Hey all!

Just thought I'd share this piece I did a while ago--I'm pretty proud of it, but I forgot to take pictures of it before giving it to my boyfriend! Anyway, I was just able to take some pictures, so I thought I'd share!

The lyrics on the hot air balloon are : "Oh Home, Let me come home! Home is wherever I'm with you!"
from this really sweet song by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. My boyfriend and I both really like it, and it seemed fitting for when he moved a few states away for school, so I drew a design and stitched it up!

I did this piece in split stitch on linen, because at the time, I didn't really know how to do any other stitches--now I do!
I wrapped the finished piece around some stretcher bars and secured them there using this great tutorial from tickertape, so Tim could hang this on the wall of his dorm. The whole thing is around 8x10 inches.

Onto some pictures (Sorry for some of the weird shadows, don't know what happened there!)

The whole thing:

Close up #1:

Close up #2:

I've been really getting into embroidery, I hope to keep posting new pieces.
Tell me what you think, I'd love to get some feedback!

9  Re: Decked Out for Deathly Hallows Part II GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by Quinndustrious P. on: July 07, 2011 09:35:04 AM
I received from Skookum on Tuesday--check out the awesome package she sent me!
It started out with a really sweet note addressed to Molly Weasley, who I'm going to the movies dressed up as!
Check out what was in the package--

Lots of edibles!

They contain yummy theater candies, like cookie dough snacks and Jolly Ranchers, disguised in really cute packaging--No-melt ice cream, a Skiving Snackbox, and owl food for this adorable owl charm that I seem to have misplaced my picture of. Oh, and Red Vines--what the hell can't they do?!? (a AVPM joke)
The Chocolate Frogs (chocolate + pretzels) and Chocolate Owl Pellets (chocolate + coconut) were handmade treats! Unfortunately they both got pretty melted in transit, but I stuck them right in the fridge, and I think they're definitely salvageable! Also, I am not above eating melted chocolate with a spoon, hahaha  Wink

Check out the great packaging on the Skiving Snackboxes from Weasley's Wizard Wheezes!

Next up, a glittery DA badge, with interchangeable pictures!  I can't decide which one to wear to the movies, they're all great!

For the game portion of the swap, she provided Horcruxes for me to hide around the house for a scavenger hunt!!
Check 'em out!

I gotta say my favorite of the Horcruxes she sent me was Tom Riddle's diary--Skookum aged it really well, and even carved his name into it!

Next up, a wand that just amazed me! I can't even tell how she made it, it's amazing! Can't wait to bring it to the movies!

And last, but most DEFINITELY not least (In fact, this might just be my favorite thing in the package) is a "Weasely is our King" shirt!
It fits like a glove, and the crown and words are done in this awesome rainbow metallic stuff! IT's got a great little Snitch detail on the shoulder, too. Love it!

Thanks for Everything, Skookum, I loved this awesome package! Can't wait to bring all this crafty goodness to the premiere!

The Pushing Daisies swap is here! This swap is for everyone who loves the show, and wants to fill their lives with Pushing Daisies-themed crafts.  This will be a 4 POINT swap (see points system below). Please limit small 1 point items to only 2 of your total points--everyone should make at least one medium or large item! There is a space on the questionnaire to say that you're interested in a bigger swap but it's no guarantee that you'll be matched with someone who also wants to craft more. If you want to swap extras, please let your partner know so they can reciprocate if they'd like! No-one wants to feel as though what they sent doesn't measure up to what they received, or vice versa. This swap is open to first-time swappers, but make sure you understand all the rules and are confident that you'll be able to complete this swap! This is my first time organizing, and I'd love for it to be a clean swap, with no flakers (this goes for everyone, not just first timers!) PM me if you have any questions at all!

MAKE SURE YOU ARE ABLE TO FOLLOW THESE IMPORTANT RULES:
1. PM me and your partner when you send and when you receive. You must have a DC# (delivery confirmation number), unless you are shipping internationally.  Include the DC in your    package sent PM to me and your partner. To make things easier for me organizing, please use one of the following subject lines when PMing me:
"Pushing Daisies Swap question," "Pushing Daisies Swap package sent," or Pushing Daisies Swap package received."

2. When you receive, post photographs in the gallery.  If you know ahead of time that you won't have a camera to photograph and upload pictures of your package with, ask your partner to take pictures before he/she sends. It's generally a good idea for all swappers to take pictures of the projects they made before sending them.

3. Please post in the thread at least once a week so we know you're still here! If you plan to go out of town for a while, please let your partner and organizer know, so we dont worry about you!

Points System:

-Medium (2 points) = 2 or more hours
