COOKING / Dessert / mini pies!
on: August 10, 2008 05:21:21 PM

So today my roommate asked me to bake something using all of the old nectarines she had that were going bad. I decided to do a pie, but then after everything was all ready I realized that we don't have a pie pan. Umm...duh. So after a little brainstorming I decided to try making mini pies in a muffin pan.... And I think that they came out adorable. I used a recipe for peach pie, but substituted nectarines and blueberries for the peaches. They came out delicious, I was a little worried but it turned out way better than expected. I also personally believe that the crust is the best part of pie (in fact sometimes I just make a crust and bake it on a baking sheet with cinnamon and sugar on top, when I don't have fruit....) so these pies are perfect for me since there is double the amount of crust (I had to make two batches). Some of my favorites - One more group shot - Thanks for looking! I love them so much, I don't think I will ever again make a full sized pie.

CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Comfy, comfy dress
on: July 11, 2008 12:40:33 PM
Alright, so I didn't really plan it this way but this dress is the most comfortable article of clothing I have ever sewn. I wanted it to be all one color originally but it is just way too freaking hot to leave the house, even to go to Joanns which is like half a mile away. So I just used what I had laying around, pieces left over from other projects. I think I like it better this way anyways. Front: And Back: It's pretty nice to wear in the 100 degree heat here. Close up of the top: Sorry about the underwear lines, you kinda have to be careful what goes underneath it, haha. Oh yeah....I based it off this $48 Urban Outfitters dress....

NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Some Embroideries
on: May 02, 2008 02:13:03 PM
Here of some of the embroideries that I've been working on. I have this feeling that the type of embroidery I do is possibly the least technically advanced of all time - it's almost all split stitch, which I thought I invented until I found out it's been around for.....ever. I've never really tried to learn any technique, that part comes next I guess. These are all done freehand, mainly just making them up as I go along. First up, a bird tree, on an old Target shirt I had. I loved the shirt, but hardly ever wore it because every time I did I would see at least ten other girls in the exact same thing. So I embellished it a little, and now I wear it all the time. The birds are patchworked from my collection of vintage handkerchiefs. This is an iPhone case that I made for my boyfriend. The theme was his idea, and he wanted the "rang rang". This in another iPhone case I made for my dad, sorry about the crappy picture quality but you get the idea. That one is green cotton embroidered onto part of a vintage 1970's DKNY plaid pantsuit, best fabric ever. AAANNNNNDDDDD...... a gratuitous kitteh shot.....because I am totally a crazy cat woman now....<<<<3 Hubert Cumberdale and Marjory Stewart-Baxter are just sooooo sleepery!

CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / A Christmas Monstrosity
on: December 23, 2007 10:44:00 AM
Here is my Christmas present for the lovely boyfriend - a monster themed winter wear set. I made a hat, mittens, slippers and a scarf for him. I wanted it to be a little different - I origionally wanted the mittens to be gloves with long monster nails at the end, and I wanted the slippers to have toes with monster toenails. However, as I'm sure some of you have also discovered, it is much harder than it seems to sew gloves. Also, I could not for the life of me figure out how to make claw slippers. So I made do with a claw-less outfit, and I think it's alright... Here is most of it - Minus the slippers - Yay for monsters! Mittens - Hat - And scarf! Hidden heart, cuz I lurrrve him - And if he doesn't like it, I'll just remind him that his present is way better than the one I got for my sister.... Aaaahhhhhh!

CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Ballet Project
on: December 12, 2007 04:49:09 PM
So, for my begining ballet class at school, we needed to do a final reflection project based off of a performance we had to go see earlier in the semester. I thought it was a big serious deal, so I've been working on this for about a month now - turns out most people just made cookies. Oh well. The performance that I based this around was telling the Native American story throughout history. I decided to applique a great blue heron onto a tunic that I would make, as herons are important animals in Native American culture and also very graceful and ballet-like. Alright...here it is. I couldn't get a very good shot of the heron itself on me because it wraps around my side, so here it is spread out... And here it is on... And the back...

CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Boyfriend Hoodie
on: September 09, 2007 08:32:24 PM
So today was my first full day off (no work, no school) in about three weeks, and I took full advantage of it...by eating a whole bag of tater tots, watching nine episodes of Grey's Anatomy, and sewing my lovely boyfriend a present...a hoodie! It took me FOREVER and got kind of confusing, because I just winged (wung?) it the whole way through and the seperate panels of color got all mixed up...but now it's done and I'm super happy with it. The pictures are (obviously) of me wearing the hoodie, not him, because 1. I haven't given it to him yet and 2. He's a little camera shy. However, he is about my size around or maybe even a little skinnier (he is a narrow sort of man) and without faces my body might as well be his. Just picture it on a super skinny, super cute tall boy and you'll get the picture. I hope he likes it...I'm a little afraid...

CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Hearts shirt
on: August 09, 2007 12:45:34 PM
So instead of unpacking today, which I was really really supposed to do, I decided to make myself a shirt instead... I used two old, really horrible t-shirts from middle school that I had in my scraps box. (The beige one had a bulldog and the front, that said "grr" in glittery letters...oh middle school...) And the back... I actually didn't even plan on putting the hearts on it...it was just gonna be blue and beige...but then I actually stabbed the boob part and made a hole. I didn't really want to show off the girls to everyone, so I sewed little hearts on. I actually think I like the shirt better with them. A happy mistake, as Bob Ross would have said...
