My son is starting preschool this coming Monday. One of the things he is required to have is a blanket for nap time. I just had to commemorate his special day with a handmade blanket. I knew I wouldn't have time to make a quilt so I remembered a pattern I had in one of my magazines for a "quillow." It is essentially a quilt that folds into it's own pocket. The nice thing is that you can make it as complicated (an actual pieced quilt) or as simple (one continuous piece of fabric) as you'd like.
Unfortunately I like to complicate my life and decided to make a weird size (45"x45" - I love square quilts) and not follow the formula given. Then I decided to piece the "pillow front" so I could embroider his name on the front. I then decided that mitered borders (on the front) would look so pretty. I even took a gander at free motion quilting (on the pillow front only) which surprisingly looks good - as long as you don't look at the reverse side!
The finished pillow size is 11.5"x11.5"
