21  Preschool naptime Quillow in Quilting: Completed Projects by nemejia on: August 13, 2008 03:56:04 PM
My son is starting preschool this coming Monday. One of the things he is required to have is a blanket for nap time. I just had to commemorate his special day with a handmade blanket. I knew I wouldn't have time to make a quilt so I remembered a pattern I had in one of my magazines for a "quillow." It is essentially a quilt that folds into it's own pocket. The nice thing is that you can make it as complicated (an actual pieced quilt) or as simple (one continuous piece of fabric) as you'd like.
Unfortunately I like to complicate my life and decided to make a weird size (45"x45" - I love square quilts) and not follow the formula given. Then I decided to piece the "pillow front" so I could embroider his name on the front. I then decided that mitered borders (on the front) would look so pretty. I even took a gander at free motion quilting (on the pillow front only) which surprisingly looks good - as long as you don't look at the reverse side!

The finished pillow size is 11.5"x11.5"

22  patchwork pinafore in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by nemejia on: August 27, 2007 03:36:26 PM
I went to the annual AQS quilt show here in Nashville and got so inspired by all the beautiful quilts.

I came home and made this patchwork pinafore with my favorite character - Sunbonnet Sue

But I have to say I don't think I will attempt another patchwork dress/clothing item. I kept getting my rows and blocks out of order. *bows to Vegbee* Grin and all those others who make patchwork clothes. All I can say is what was i thinking?

Anyways here's the pics! Enjoy

24  Finally! my tablecloth dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by nemejia on: August 13, 2007 02:23:21 PM
Here's my previous post(it shows the fabric better):

I got the tablecloth on clearance at Dillards for $3 (I actually got 2 but only used 1) I finished the dress a while ago but was waiting to make a shrug or find something to wear underneath (i'm, quite modest) I finally order some undershirts from www.downeastbasics for $10 and I think it looks great with it. I don't think it detracts from the dress at all. Oh and I got the shoes like amonth before I finfished the dress because I knew they would be perfect for the dress.

ANyway here is a pic. I have to get my hubby to take some pics outside because bathroom shots do not do this dress justice so I will post updated pictures soon!

oh yeah I used simplicity 4224 view A

Here is the link to kimberlina's semi tute http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=185607.0. I didn't use her tutorial since I had started this avoer 1 month ago. But it's very similar.

I didn't quite know where to post this so if you think this belongs in quilting, sewing clothes, go ahead and move it admin!

I HATE having to dig around a box for my presser feet so I made this organizer of sorts. I still don't know if I will hang it on the wall or what.

Here's a pic of it all rolled up:

How adorable-it's a beautiful print.

It's got birds on branches and flowers on it. I really fell in love the moment I saw the print and bought the napkins (4) without knowing what I was going to do with them. Now I'm kicking myself for not having bought more (there were like 50 the first time around). When I went back I didn't find anymore, just the tablecloth though.

I made one of the other napkins into a half apron
