I've wanted to make a quilt for so long now, but it has seemed so daunting so I thought I would start with something small to practice on, and go from there.

I decided to make a mat for underneath my sewing machine because everytime I move it, it leaves marks on my desk.

With some help from this tutorial: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=305294.0 I came up with something I'm happy with for a first try! I just kind of threw fabric together too so I'm not sure how great it all goes together!

Thanks!

I used thick interfacing on the front and inside panels, and then on each of the card slots & photo frame part I used cardboard under the fabric to make sure the cards don't slide out Smiley

While I liked my first try, I had cards falling out all over the place, so it was back to the drawing board for me!

I wanted a tri fold purse, and I also wanted to avoid having to turn it inside out, so I did the two panels separately then sewed them together at the end. It turned out a bit more wonky than I would like, but I think it gives it character Tongue

I also inserted cardboard in all the pockets to make them more sturdy, which has worked well.

The grey material is actually from a pair of pants that my dad wore in the 70's, so that was a bit of a giggle cutting those up!

Any comments / suggestions for improvement would be greatly appreciated! I know the stitching is a bit rough, and the two panels don't line up exactly but I will get there!

Filled up, with no cards falling out in sight!

Hi all

I was inspired by this: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=309330.0 and decided to make my own for my kitchen.

I had cupcake fabric sitting around and I didn't know what to do with it so I thought this would be perfect!

First shot: Ready to be filled up

Second shot: close up of the glittery fabric

Third shot: Action photo

Sorry for the bad quality photo's, my camera hates me Smiley

This is awesome, very professional looking, I would think it was store bought if you hadn't said otherwise!
