41  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / $2 of fabric into a summer dress! on: February 17, 2007 01:38:28 AM
I finally finished the dress i had been "working on" for two summers.  I actually used a pattern for this one, which I don't usually do.  I did end up doing a couple things the pattern didn't call for, like the straps (I didn't trust it not to fall down!) and the little bow on the back (mainly, I suck at zippers and I needed something to hide some of the bunchy-ness!)

42  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / I like ties... and purses. on: February 17, 2007 12:02:34 AM
So, this started when my dad was getting rid of a bunch of ties.  Now my mom finds me bags of them (ties, not dads!) for super cheap at thrift stores.  I've made quite a few over the past couple years.  It just takes me awhile since I feel the need to completely hand sew them, so the ties lay like I want them to!
I had previously sewn on velcro for the closures, but I am liking giant snaps right now.  And I have lined one or two, but I kinda like being able to see all my tiny little stiches when I look inside!

(Please excuse my dirty floor!)

43  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Pirates for Halloween! (Or any day, really...) (Now with boot pics!) on: February 16, 2007 10:13:53 PM
So, I know it is a little late (or early) for Halloween, but am finally getting around to posting on here!
I took a shirt of my rommmate's and attached it to part of some pajamas that my mom made me years ago.  The sash is a belt thing I found at Wal-Mart for a couple dollars.
For my boy's costume, we just cut the neck of the shirt and used some leather cording.  I wish I had a picture of the boots.  He got these great knee high, women's boots on clearance.  They were very heeled, however, so he sawed off the bottom, and it actually worked and they still held together!

The sawed off boots!  They held up for the night, and are still holding up after a couple more wears!

Boot after...

The removed wedge. (Now used as a doorstop!)

The new boot bottom.

I am sure something could be done to fill in those holes and seal off the bottom so it would be more durable!
And, I know they still look like they are stuck in that curved, heeled position, but they flatten out when they are being worn!
44  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Kitty Hat! on: February 16, 2007 09:35:24 PM
I crocheted this hat for my boyfriend for Christmas.  His hair was (he has since cut it) long and kinda poofy, so I got to custom make lots of hats for him!
I used a super soft yarn, pom poms for the paws, and pipecleaners as a base for the ears.
Not a lot of guys out there brave enough to wear a kitty hat... but he has actually gotten a lot of compliments on it!

Just thought I would add a pic of the hat on a person with a "normal" amount of hair!
