11  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: Princess Leia on: June 01, 2009 10:53:51 AM
Elsinora, your costume is amazing!  You and your fiance both fit the parts so well!
Is that your real hair?  Because it looks perfect! What did you make the belt out of?

So, not really sure where to put this... a birthday decoration that I don't think we will take down and is made out paper bags and markers...

Thanks everyone!!
I am actually not quite sure how my cousin got the frosting so smooth.  It was pretty fluffy and I think she just worked it until it got that way!!
14  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Rainbow Bundt! on: April 21, 2009 10:49:27 AM
Thanks for all the compliments!
I actually didn't bake any of the layers separately... I just dumped the layers in the bundt pan one at a time and hoped for the best! I just made sure the colored layers were evenly distributed over the bottom!
15  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Re: Plastic Canvas Cactus Coasters on: April 21, 2009 10:28:38 AM
Thanks!  Yeah, I just cut the plastic to size.  I like doing stuff like this because it feels like a puzzle!!
16  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / SVUndies on: April 14, 2009 02:04:44 PM
After seeing this post by urka http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=289963.0
I decided my sister needed some undies with those beautiful faces of our favorite Law and Order for her birthday.  (We kind of have an obsession.  She even wrote a song called "SVU Junkie"!)

I found the pictures, made them black and white (in Word, even, that is the extent of my computer skills!) Then had my husband screen print.  (He is an art grad and has easy access to photo emulsion stuffs.) So, most of the credit (ok, maybe all?) goes to him!

Thanks for the inspiration urka!
17  COOKING / Dessert / Rainbow Bundt! on: April 14, 2009 12:46:23 PM
So, I was incredibly inspired and intrigued by everyone's rainbow cakes, so I had to make my own!
I followed these instructions: http://www.omnomicon.com/rainbowcake
which were exceptionally helpful, especially since I made this the day before Easter and had already boiled all the eggs in my house!  I used a French Vanilla cake mix and a can and a half of diet cherry 7-Up.  I also just used regular liquid dyed and did some elementary mixing to get the colors I wanted!
Then, just layered it in the bundt cake and it turned out magical!!!  We served it on frosting "clouds". (My husbands idea.)
Thanks all for the inspiration!

Even the crumbs are pretty!

18  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: First time crocheters' blanket! on: March 18, 2009 02:09:29 PM
Thanks!
Oh, and to answer questions...
I know some of them have carried it on, as suddenly the little kids have been taught to crochet (by my students), which brings me to my next answer.  The students in my class are 16-18, and of the 11, 6 are guys. (And, actually, when I taught them to knit, it was one of the guys who picked it up the quickest and proceded to knit a great scarf that was even, and blemish free! Which is actually better than I can do most of the time!)
19  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Patchwork St. Patrick's Day Skirt on: March 16, 2009 02:12:32 PM
I whipped this up fairly quickly (well, as quickly as you can sew tons of squares together!) to wear to a St. Patrick's Day dinner/party this weekend.
I am actually really happy with it, which is good because I was actually finishing it in the car on the way to the party and hoping it would look decent on me!

20  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / First time crocheters' blanket! on: March 16, 2009 01:55:16 PM
I teach a Home Economics class at a private school.  (When they hired me to teach Spanish, they also said I would be teaching Home Ec.  Lucky for them, I know how to do some stuff!)
Anyway, 11 high school students who just learned how to crochet made this lap blanket to donate to Project Linus.  Each student made at least three squares and helped to piece it together.  They dubbed it their "Hobo Blanket" since it is all patchy!  I am pretty proud of them and just wanted to share!
