1  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Re: My iSpy quilt/hexie pattern questions on: October 21, 2014 08:47:56 AM
I use dark blue instead of black a lot in the kids quilting classes. It ties things together but isn't as harsh as black for kids. A great red is always a fun option too. Play with colors you'll be surprised.

LOL. That would be a dream warehouse Grin

Actually those were from my scrap boxes. 12 years worth of scrappy bits that would have otherwise been tossed in the trash can by various students in my sewing classes...and a few from things I've made over the years. Most of my novelty scrappy bits are smaller than 6x6 blocks so you got lucky.

A dull needle will also do cause crazy stitching.

Anyone still collecting Ispy fabrics? I can swap lots so message me. I also have a large box of selvages if anyone uses those.

Yes, using something to grip the fabric helps but I hate gloves. They make my hands hot. I use Batt Scooters by Paula Reid.

It makes a big difference. The smoother everything moves together the better it quilts. Anything that grips the fabric will work. Garden gloves with the little rubber dots, quilt gloves, finger tip gripper things, etc. I like Batt Scooters by batts in the attic....gloves on my hands are too hot.

Our quilt guild has bags of random scraps called Puzzle Bags. The puzzle is to make a quilt for charity from the bag of random pieces. Here is the before and after of one of the bags I picked up. It's called Mouse Maze and there is a pattern free on my blog for the quilt.
