1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Birds on a wire + extra card on: April 27, 2011 08:23:04 PM
I think this is technically more paper craft than regular art...if not, please let me know and I'll move it!

Also, my first real project post on craftster!

I made this for mimiw in the Ongoing Wish Swap, based on a pillowcase on her wist/her general love of blue, green, and birds.

Using watercolors (which I really am not very good at) I mixed up a sheet of watercolor paper with all the blues and greens in my little pallet.

Then I made a template of a bird, and traced out approximately a bajillion of them

Then I cut them out by hand.  The way they dried, they were looking....dusty.  So I put a coat of gloss medium on each of them, and happily this brought out the nuances between the colors a lot better!

Drew the wires on a canvas board with a sharpie, and used tacky glue to attach them, I figured it would work better than mod podge on the canvas.

With the leftover bit of colored paper, and one of the birds, I made the card I sent with the package as well.

C&C ABSOLUTELY welcome, this is one of the first projects I've done where I felt like what it looked like in my head is actually what it looks like finished.

Oh, PS, it took all of my willpower not to add glitter to the gloss medium.  I think I'll make one for me now, in pinks and purples, with glitter.  Everything looks better with glitter, right?
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Delivered, but not really on: November 28, 2010 12:24:25 AM
In the Dark Tower swap, we have a sender whose DC# says delivered, but the receiver did not receive it.  This only happened last Monday, and with the holiday and all, I am hoping the post office finds it.  However the sender has asked me what happens if it is in fact lost, and regretfully cannot afford to remake, so this is what I understand from everything I've read in this board and all the organizing tips and info:

The sender will still receive positive feedback (should she post pictures of what she sent? otherwise how can I verify she met the swap requirements?) and I'll request an angel.

My question is, how long do I give the post office to find the sender's package?  We are already more than a week past the ship date, but I do have my fingers crossed that with Thanksgiving probably messing some things up, it will be found.

Second question is, how long does the angel have to craft?  This was a 5 point swap with over a month of crafting.  With Christmas coming up, realistically how long does the angel get, but I feel bad for the receiver having to wait so long as well.  I may just end up doing the angeling myself since I had so many ideas and swore I wouldn't swap again until the new year  Grin

Thanks for your help!

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Pimp My Swap? on: September 23, 2010 02:27:45 PM
Personally, I feel like I miss out on a lot of cool swaps because I don't check the organized swap board enough.

I offered to organize a swap from the new swap ideas board - The Dark Tower swap.  It's my first time organizing, and I'm a little worried that even though we had 6-ish people in the discussion thread, I've only had one person send me their questionnaire all week.

I'm wondering, is it "uncouth" to have searched craftster for people who mentioned the Dark Tower in a post, or possibly named their youngest son after the main character (she HAS to want to join this swap!) and send a blast PM to those members letting them know that sign-ups are open for this swap I thought they might be interested in?

Thoughts?

How This Swap Works:
Please READ CAREFULLY! This swap works differently than most!

Try to imagine a chain.  The first link is the first person whose wish list is on page 1 (Person A) - that will be the craftster member who was the very last wish list from Ongoing Wish Swap 60.

Now, we want to put another link in the chain.  People will read that list and see if there is something they want to/can make from the list.

Someone (Person B) will claim Person A for some item on their wish list.  They post a reply to the thread that says I claim Person A for [item].  This is my X claim (however many times they have picked someone for example, "this is my fourth wish, with one sent, and three received, (meaning that this is the fourth claim they've made, one is in transit to it's destination, and three of the items have been received by the people they previously claimed).  Also add your location, and any preferences or aversions I live in Wisconsin USA, I am a vegetarian, and I am allergic to wool.

IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU REPLY WITH YOUR STATUS WHEN YOU CLAIM SOMEONE!  This means you need to post who you are claiming and for what, how many claims you have made, including how many in transit and how many received, and your location/preferences/aversions.

Then comes the fun part!  After the introduction, Person B is the last link in the chain, and they post their wish list!!!  YOU CAN HAVE AS MANY ITEMS ON YOUR WISH LIST AS YOU WANT, HOWEVER YOU MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF SIX.  THE MORE ITEMS YOU LIST, THE BETTER YOUR CHANCES OF BEING CLAIMED QUICKLY.

(Please have your list ready, this swap moves very quickly!  Please include your country at the start of your wish list). Person B will also PM Person A to get her address so they can mail the item when it is finished.

Along comes Person C, who claims Person B for something on their list and the chain is built, link by link.  (If Person C wanted to make Person B a purse AND a stuffie, that would still count as ONE WISH.)  Then they post their list, and so on.

When you want to make a claim, you can ONLY pick from the very last wish list in the chain.  You can't pick anyone else in the chain - you can only connect to the very end of the chain, which is that last wish list posted.

After you have made your claim, you need to PM that person for their address.

Friends of Craftster are allowed 3 wishes at one time, others are allowed 2 wishes.  If this is your first swap, you are only allowed one wish until your craft is received for this month.  Do not choose over your given limit.
If you already have one claim that will be sent out late, please don't claim again until that one is sent out.

Become a Friend of Craftster!  Go here: http://www.craftster.org/subscribe.php

If you are at your limit of wishes, you can choose again once one of your partners receives, NOT when you send.

***Do not claim someone unless you can fulfill that wish to a high caliber***

Let's keep the quality high here. We don't want to receive PMs with people concerned over the lack of quality of their items.  Please, just work your hardest to keep the bar high on the quality of items here!  Don't choose just for the sake of choosing; choose to make someone else a really AWESOME wish!

Now if the thread gets in a rut for a few days/hours, the person who made the last wish should add to their list if they can think of anything else, until someone decides to craft for them. Please make sure this is not you!

Unsure of where to find wish ideas?  Try the previous ongoing wish swap galleries or any other gallery on craftster.  Look through your fellow crafters wist lists.

Sending/Communicating/Feedback:
YOU HAVE TWO WEEKS TO GET YOUR ITEM OUT THE DOOR.
IF YOU DO NOT SEND A MEDIUM ITEM YOU WILL BE GETTING NEGATIVE FEEDBACK.
( the medium can be a couple small items etc as long as it adds up to a medium )
( A medium item equals two hours of crafting time or $20 worth of store bought items )

Please be communicative if you are having any issues. If you communicate you still need to send your item in a timely manner.  Communication does not mean you can send as late as you want.  After one week past the deadline you will have negative feedback.  This is only temporary as it will be changed back once you fulfill your obligation for late item(s).  Do not choose to craft an item if you do not think you can meet these deadlines.

THERE WILL BE FEEDBACK FOR THIS SWAP
I will be giving feedback in the following way:
-  great swapper: for those who follow all the rules
-  good/poor communication:  where applicable
-  sent late: where applicable
-  no dc number: failed to comply with the rule about using a confirmation number for packages within their own country
- didn't post pictures: failed to post pictures of what they received without an adequate explanation to their partner

Previous Swap Rounds:
If you are confused in any way by how this works, please look at some previous rounds:

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT POSTING PHOTOS IS STILL A REQUIREMENT FOR THIS SWAP.  IF YOU CAN'T TAKE PHOTOS, PLEASE MENTION IT TO THE PERSON WHO CLAIMS YOU.

YumJello01 will be our organizer, in charge of your claims, your sends, receives and approval.
BABALINA58 will be or co Organizer in charge of the Discussions, Gallery and Feedback.

7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Candle Quick/How best to make candles? on: May 03, 2010 08:29:25 PM
I was searching amazon looking for a cheap-ish candle making kit, and I'm down to two - a pour pot candle making kit, or this, the candle quick: http://www.amazon.com/Get-Organized-CANDLE-QUICK/dp/B002JW6CUE/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1272943169&sr=1-13
My real passion is the actual candle holder, I love to craft on glass and pottery, and am thinking that making it into a candle is a nice USEFUL way to turn some of my wackier craft swap ideas into a nice item for my partner...

Any thoughts on wax melting/candle making?  Mightn't it be easier to use the Candle Quick?

Thanks for any opinions/advice!
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Craft My Gift Swap? on: August 10, 2007 03:46:02 AM
I need to think of a better name for it, but here goes:

Your best friend's birthday is coming up.  You've been buying her birthday/X-mas/whatever presents for years and you're running out of ideas.  At this point, your brain is fried.

But hark!  There's a cache of fresh crafty brains here on crafster!  So we have a swap where you tell your partner about your friend/s.o./family member, what you've gotten them in the past, what they might like and how to stalk them.  They, in turn, do the same.  It could be a smaller swap, like only one large item or two mediums...

Thoughts?

10  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / The battle of the sleeve(less) on: March 01, 2007 02:27:10 AM
So I have a wedding to go to in May in Florida.  Finding a formally dress with sleeves is impossible (unless it's matronly), and those 3/4 sleeve stretchy wrap dresses will be too heavy for this occasion.

I'm looking for ideas to craft (knit, sew, crochet, whatever) a dressy, short sleeve top/jacket to go over a sleeveless dress.  Jackets, ponchos...whatever you got.  Just not a wrap 'cause those are annoying.  Also, any thoughts on somehow making wearing a t-shirt under a dress still formal?

Help is MUCH appreciated!  I don't wanna be cropping pics of me to my shoulders like I had to the last wedding I was in.  Undecided
