1  Re: Victorian Inspired Top Hats in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by noxenlux on: December 14, 2009 04:10:19 PM
That hat is great! I would wear it everywhere, and if anyone made snide comments I would just turn my nose up at them and speak loudly of unwanted shoddy fashion advice. And, I have to ask, is that an orange octopus on your shoulder? I have a plan to get one on my hip, but I have never seen anyone with the same. Great work!

Thanks!! Cheesy I do enjoy the new style I've been making! Cheesy

It's actually a Kraken Cheesy

2  Victorian Inspired Top Hats in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by noxenlux on: November 21, 2009 09:25:17 PM

These are a small size Top hat that I switched around to work the way I wanted it to. The hats are Blocked by hand on a hat block. I added French Ribbon and Ostrich feathers to the two hats. I really enjoy this style and wanted to share it. These are the first ones I made like this and so far people have liked them Smiley The hats have a good Victorian riding hat feel to them, which is why I likely love these ones I made Smiley

4  Mini Driving Hat and Mini Top Hat in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by noxenlux on: August 02, 2009 03:43:13 PM
First is my newest hat block Smiley I just got it a week ago, this is my first finished one, I have another on the block currently.. This is what is called a mini driving hat, thought a few people here might like it.

This was made with a hat shaper, like a hat block but plastic instead of wood, so NOT simple to work with. Which is something some of you could use if you don't want to send the money on a hat block ($300 +) Hat Shapers are about $28 ish. (I drilled holes into mine so I could use it with a felt hood)

Amazing hats .. so cute and playful (and who can go wrong with a bird skull on a tricorn  Grin )

PS. I love the bustier you are wearing too!

Thanks! Cheesy

Actually it's a dress, you just can't see it in the photo. (don't mind the angle, I put my hip at an angle so it doesn't look right)

Crazy cool! Awesome pics too!

Thanks!

7  Top Hats are fun! :D in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by noxenlux on: September 15, 2008 02:53:31 PM
I ordered some double-sided buckram so I could make some stronger hats..

So I went right with making a top hat!

Base is the double-sided buckram with wire to help shape the brim. The hat is covered with crushed velvet and lined with cotton fabric Smiley A little bit of trim and lace were added.

I have a few more on the way, even a full sized top hat!

should be lots of fun!

Cheesy

9  Newsboy and Cloche Hats :D Steampunk and Skulls :D in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by noxenlux on: May 09, 2008 08:50:02 PM
Started something new. I'm preparing for the U-district Street fair here in seattle, and I wanted something for people that may not like the high style of many of my other hats..

So This is what I thought I'd make... Cloches (only one cloche picture) and Newsboys hats

10  Victorian Skull Tricorn and Yellow mini Top hat. in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by noxenlux on: April 09, 2008 01:06:28 PM
Busy busy, with lots more to come. I haven't posted in a while, but I just got a bolt of this fabric in the mail. I'm highly happy with it, it's a heavyweight fabric so it's awesome for hats!

Blocked buckram with wire to reinforce the edges, trim added along the edges. Feathers added for a good accent Smiley

http://www.noxenlux.com/img/current/yellowtophat01_1.jpg
http://www.noxenlux.com/img/current/yellowtophat01_2.jpg

Blocked wool felt, wire reinforced brim with trim sewn over top. Feathers and netting added to the crown instead of on the sides or back.

The yellow hurts my eyes Wink but I love it anyways Cheesy Though it does have a bit a green to it also.
