1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Look what I found in the closet.. on: March 26, 2008 09:56:41 PM
Alright. So I'm going downtown tomorrow with a few friends and just checked the weather online. It's too cold for a thin hoodie but too warm for my winter jacket. Solution? Well I looked in our closet to see if I could find an old (not ugly!) spring coat to wear, and I found this.

My brother's football jacket from fourth grade. I love it, but the biggest issue is it makes me feel like a giant marshmellow, and it's a little too much blue. I felt like simply taking in the sides would make it look odd...  Any ideas? Smiley
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / When does it get easier? on: January 01, 2008 12:50:46 PM
Hello! I've been reconstructing/making clothing on and off for the past three years. I took a semester-long sewing class and it helped me a little but everything was taught using patterns and I hate patterns. Anyways it's been a while since I sewed so today I got the sewing machine on and decided to play around. It's just as difficult for me to create a cute piece of clothing as if was when I first started!! Let me say this, sewing does NOT come naturally to me. Yet I enjoy doing it anyways, but it is so frustrating when I can't seem to make anything look right. Can anyone else here relate? Sad

Please READ CAREFULLY! This is a  new style of swap, and it works differently than most.

The first person puts a list together of all the books that they can SEND, you must have a MINIMUM OF THREE.

Then people will read the list, if you want a book/magazine, you reply to the thread and say " I want Jenny to send me Bust Magazine" or whatever you want off of their list. In your reply, remember to include your country, and your list. YOU MUST POST AT LEAST 3 BOOKS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT THE SWAP FROM STALLING. Remember you cannot have more than 2 claims at one time.

You should then PM "Jenny" and provide her w/ a mailing address and the name of the book you claimed from her list. Senders:  If you don't recieve the claimer's address within a few days, please send a PM to him/her asking for it, or let me know.

Then someone will claim a book/magazine from your list.
Then they post their list, and so on.

If a list has been up for 5 days w/o a claim, someone else may put up their list without claiming from the last list posted. This is to prevent the swap from stalling.

If you are unable to send out within 7 days, please let me know. Don't forget to get DC. Although you don't have to send me the DC#, please save it as I make ask for it.  This is to prevent flaking and assure that books arrive in a timely manner.

You can participate as many times as you want but no person can "owe" more than 2 things at a time.

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Dyed Shirt, The Natural Way! Haha. on: April 30, 2006 04:50:20 PM
Hi Everyone!
A week ago I told my dad that everyone in the family was donating to my wardrobe collection except him. So he gave me 2 button-down shirts, one white and one blue, and three old ties. Well, I don't really like white shirts, too boring for me. So I though hmm, what could I used to dye this shirt? The last time I dyed a white button down (haha) I used paint. Yes, paint. It actually looked pretty cool but I ended up throwing it away. Suddenly it came to me, henna! So I got a bucket filled with water, mixed in some henna and put the shirt in. I let it dry over night.
Today I dried it more using a blow dryer. The shirt was powdery, and a very light green, possibly beige. Well the first thing I noticed was parts of the shirt looked yellow. I was wondering why this happened when I realized I was looking at the armpit of the shirt. Eww! The henna had made the pit stains visible, as I couldn't see them before. Grossed out, I cut the sleeves off. Then I put the shirt in the dryer for five minutes, and amazingly all the powder was still on the shirt.
Definitely an interesting experience. Did I mention I have to take an AP test wednesday? I swear, procrastination is when my creativity is at its height.  Grin Just thought I'd share.

6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / A different kind of Book Swap on: March 05, 2006 05:03:36 PM
I recently bought a book off amazon.com called "Being Vegan" that I didn't really like. I'm not old enough to sell it online, so I thought maybe we could have a swap in which you can get rid of books you no longer want in exchange for one you do want. Like we could have a list of all the books craftsters would like to get rid of and who ever wants the book can PM the person who has it. The idea needs to be tweaked a bit, but what do you guys think?
7  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Sewing Machine Troubles.. on: December 31, 2005 12:18:06 PM
Hey guys! I've had my lovely singer sewing machine for a year and a half now.. and many times it has jammed and stuff but I have learned how to handle it. Now I have a new problem, the handwheel won't move smoothly. I took out the bobbin case and hook and oiled the machine as directed. But for some reason, after I put the two little latches in to secure everything, the handwheel won't turn properly. When I take off the latches, it works fine but I can't sew like that because then the bobbin case may fall out. Help? I hope I explained that clearly enough.
8  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Staple Gun on: July 07, 2005 03:50:14 PM
Hi, I was hoping you guys could help. Well I'm reupholstering a chair, so I went out and bought a light duty arrow staple gun. But there's one problem: it didn't come with directions, and I don't know how to put the staples in! I'm guessing they go in here ((ignore my face)

    Help?  Huh
