1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Wavy Daisy Love Quilt on: January 14, 2011 03:32:30 PM
I made this quilt for the newborn daughter of good friends.  The patchwork is actually one print that is quilted around to make it look like blocks.  The circles were interfaced and then appliqued onto the green strip.  This was a fairly simple piece, overall, but I LOVE it.

This gives you an idea of the overall size--- on a full size bed.

A close-up of the fabrics and quilting.  I used a fuschia pink and off-white thread for quilting.  Meander quilting on the green panel, a spiral on the circles, around the patchwork, in stripes on the plaid border, and meander and around the flowers on the purple border.

Cosi, Nina's three year old sister, immediately dragged the quilt into her room.  So cute!

C & C welcome!  Thanks!

2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / The Avett Brothers, Emotionalism Hoodie on: October 25, 2009 07:59:32 PM
One of my besties introduced me to the Avett Brothers last year, and I am completely hooked! (If you haven't heard of them, you should check them out; they're amazing!)  She has the Emotionalism album cover tattooed on her back, but it is very rarely seen... so I decided to embroider the symbol and the band name and stick it on a hoodie for her to wear as a birthday gift.  I think it came out really well and she loved it!  (or at least she told me she did!)

The bird symbol is embroidered with satin stitch and backstitch.  The Avett Brothers patch is in backstitch.  There is also a heart embroidered on the front but I don't have a pic.

C&C welcome!  And go check out The Avett Brothers!!
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Save the Date! on: September 08, 2009 07:40:58 PM
My fiance designed our Save the Dates with some ideas I gave him.  Love them!  I had to show them off!

The photo of us (heavily photoshopped) was taken in Collioure, France this summer when he asked me to marry him.
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Baby Name Painting(s) on: January 24, 2008 03:37:30 PM
I decided to paint letters for my cousins' new babies nurseries...  but I decided I didn't want to buy the ready-made letters to modify.  I bought small packs of stretched canvases (4'x6') and then hot-glued ribbon on the back for them to hang.

I painted the letters with acrylics to match the bedding/decor of the nursery, based on photos and registries.

For my cousin Grant and Ashleigh's baby Carter:

And for my cousin Amy and Bryan's baby Abbi:

I'm fairly pleased with how they turned out, and both sets are hanging in their respective nursery.  Thanks for looking.
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Finished objects...lots of them. on: September 03, 2007 05:15:15 PM
These are all onesies, hand-embroidered without stabilizer, except for the monster-- he is an applique with embroidered eyes that will be stretched on a frame as art for a little guy's room.
(The turquoise cat is obviously not embroidered; it just happened to be in that picture)

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Red summer dress... with shirring! on: June 07, 2007 06:49:15 PM
I just had to try my hand at shirring.  It is easy, but takes for.ev.er.  I might never do it again!  I do love my little dress, though....

I just took an A-line skirt that I had, extended the top straight up, and added the ruffle to the bottom.  My mom helped me (which is why it is a finished dress instead of sitting in my studio waiting to be done!).

Pics.

Here's the front.

Here's the back.

Here's a close-up of the shirring.

It is the perfect thing to wear on a sunny day!
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Brightly Painted Stool--- with cat. (pic heavy) on: April 22, 2007 10:11:13 AM
I purchased a plain old wooden stool for 5 bucks at a going out of business sale, with a plan to paint it as a Mother's Day gift.  My mom has a large sewing room where we spend a lot of time, and I thought it could be extra seating for when we are working on something together.

I don't have a picture of the stool "before" but it was just plain wood.  I painted the whole thing white first (primer and bright white wall paint) and then did the details with acrylics and black sharpies. Here is how it ended up.

The picture of the cat was inspired by some folk art I saw on Ebay last year....  don't know who the original artist was, but thought I'd give that shoutout at least...

Here is a closeup of the legs.

And a gratuitous pic with my favorite cat, Neko.

I realized this morning that I forgot to put on the cat's whiskers... so those will be added later.  Of course, I'm going to have to get it back from my mom, who snatched it away while visiting this weekend.  (I'm horrible at keeping gifts!  I always want to give them away!!)

Thanks for looking!
8  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Black and White Crazy Quilt on: February 15, 2007 07:36:34 PM
This is (was?) a gift  for my friends' wedding.  I stood up as the "best man" in the wedding; I had been friends with both of them, introduced them, and hounded Jo until she agreed to go out with Brian.  They actually fought over who I would stand up with!  (That's just a fun story for me, but the point of this post is the quilt!!)

here it is before the final borders.

Here it is finished!

Close up of quilting and fabrics-- I made the binding out of leftover blocks and fabric.  The quilt was machine pieced and quilted, but at over 280 pieces, it was a LOT of work!

The pattern came from a book, but I added the block border between the black outside border and swirly inside border, and I used four leftover stack/whack blocks for the corners.

Thanks for looking.  Smiley
9  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Mickey Mouse Ragged Quilt on: February 12, 2007 02:25:40 PM
I made this ragged quilt for one of my friends' twins, a little boy named Maxwell.  My friend loves Disney stuff-- and she loved this quilt.  I hope that Max drags it around for a while.  Smiley

I used two different Mickey flannels and two different tones of denim.  On the dark denim squares, I drew in and quilted a "mickey head" pattern.

You can see the chevron pattern here.

10  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Colorful Horse on: February 12, 2007 02:13:19 PM
Here is a painting I did for a friend as a wedding gift; she is an avid rider.

I'm a newbie, so can't post pics yet.  And please forgive the horrible photo... it's the best one I had and I already gave away the painting!
