11  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Christmas Stocking Swap Round 11 (Signup thru Oct. 20; send out Dec. 4) on: November 10, 2015 06:44:15 AM
Do you put up a real tree or artificial?  Is your tree themed? When do you put it up?

We get a real tree. We used to cut it down at a tree farm, but it was pretty expensive, they charged per foot. Then we tried a place where it's 25$ flat for any tree you cut, but the trees were more wild, which is fine, but it was an hour away and they didn't look very good. For the last couple years we've gone to this church around the corner that just asks for a $20 or $25 donation and the trees are really nice. My mom got our tree there a few times after my folks divorced and she didn't have much money so she left us in the car while she asked them about trees- she didn't want us to get our hopes up. $15 later we had a large tree and my mom was crying because she was so happy.

No theme, but many of them are from swappers Smiley There is sort of a rustic quality to some, a couple handfuls of Harry Potter related ones, some that were my grandparents', my parents', etc...

We usually get our tree after the West Chester Old fashioned Christmas parade, which is on Dec. 4 this year. So we'll get it the 5th or 6th. The parade really gets me in the Christmas spirit. We stand near my aunt and uncle's radio station booth where they announce the floats and drink coffee from the shop where our friend works. I particularly love the South/Central American groups that dance through. I'm getting so excited already!

We have family Christmas with my Mom's family before Christmas with a secret santa and lots of food. Christmas day my husband and I open our gifts with our kitty, then to my mom's to open gifts with her, my brothers, and my dad comes over too. This year my mom is visiting family in Iowa so I think everyone will come to our apartment. My mother-in-law works in care so we usually arrange to see her and my brothers-in-law a week or so later.

We used to go to my dad's parents' house for Christmas dinner, then later his sister's, but we seem to have drifted from his family. Frankly, I prefer just being at home with my family and relaxing with my husband.

My brain hurts from staring at the same spreadsheet for hours so I took a break to write down a few ideas for sevs!

What was the best Christmas present you have received as an adult?
My husband got my a Roku a couple years ago so I can watch Netflix on TV. Definitely a game changer! This year we're doing a joint gift to ourselves: redeeming all of our swagbucks and getting an Assassin's Creed Xbox One bundle. Swoon.

I was standing at the bus stop this morning and suddenly felt warm and fuzzy as I remembered it's the last day to sign up. We're so close!

I'm thinking I should join this swap this year.  Would anyone be interested in a leather stocking?  Or wood carved items?

That sounds awesome! I love all the variety in this swap.

I have a stocking that was made in a previous swap...I have too many stockings, but I want more..I love them hanging around the place for decoration. Sadly santa doesn't fill them all, but there is always room in my house for more decorations..

to change the topic..

when does everyone unpack their stocking?? We get up early-mercifully not at the crack of dawn any more, now that my daughter is a grown up- and unpack everything around the tree, before breakfast..munching on the chocolate that is always in the stocking...

I decorate with the extra stockings too. I put them in our tiny hallway, in the bedroom, the second bedroom/craft room, the kitchen. They're all so lovely!

At my mom's we do our stockings last. At home, I can't remember if my husband and I do them first or last.
