1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Jeans and bright shirt *first post* on: March 27, 2007 01:17:32 PM
rozekitten: there is no particular brand of denim I use. I use what ever I can find that seems to be a suitable weight (If it's not heavy enough, or a tight enough weave, I wear through at the inner thigh). I adjust my finishing techniques according to what type and wight of fabric I'm using. The denim for these jeans was heavy and slightly shiny, kind of dressed up feeling, so I did a more classic top stitching, it varies though.

Oh my gosh! thanks everyone for the great comments!!!

magneticmary - I've been sewing for approximately 10 years, I taught myself how to make pants as a teenager. For about 9 years, I only made pants. It's just been this past year that I've ventured into the scary world of tops. (the opposite of most people). My advice would be to buy fabric on sale and just go for it! Buying fabric on sale was key for me, because then I wasn't so heart broken if something didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped!

Now I'm just counting the days until I graduate (I'm currently a grad student), so I have  more time to sew!! (there is so much inspiration on here)!!!

Wow! Thanks for all the great comments!

I don't actually use a patterns for my pants. When I was around 15 I found a pair of pants I absolutely loved and once I wore them out I tore out the seams and made a pattern from them. I've been using variations of that original pattern ever since!

Pets are so cute aren't they! The white kitten (also have a big black cat) always sits on my sewing and gets so close to the mechanical bits that I'm frightened that she will get hurt. But she usually just sits there and watches very very intently!

Because I'm 6'1" and size 18, I often find it really quite hard to find cloths that fit in stores, so I've been making my own jeans for over ten years, but this is the first shirt I've ever made, (also made without a pattern)!! I draped pieces of fabric over my dress form and made pleats/tucks on the shoulders to form a flattering sweetheart-like neckline. There is a tie that wraps around under the bust and a zipper in the side. It's not quite as low cut as it looks! I welcome any comments or suggestions, but please be nice as it's my first post!

It looks really good on you! From the pics on the pattern, I wouldn't have thought it to be so great, but I think I'm going to have to pick this one up and give it a try!!

it would have been over the top if it was all gold, but with the print material it is perfectly beautiful!

They are all really beautiful! I like the idea that the first necklace can transform to be a bracelet (it makes it very marketable).
