Thank you for all the compliments on the cake. Our cake almost didnt make it. Our friend delivering the cake was almost sideswiped by a car running a red light. So when it got there, it was cracked and leaning. Being the ever calm bride, I asked But does it taste good? Crisis Averted. She fixed it on site and nobody was the wiser.

The base of our cake was 12 square, and our cake plate was 18 so there was about 3 all the way around. However there was also the cardboard on top so from the cardboard to the edge there was only about 1.5 all the way around.

We just spray painted ours. Because its SOOO big, I dont know what else I would do with it. I dont know if I ever plan on having another cake that big.   But thats such a wonderful idea to add dates to it.

Plus we made ours about 4 days before the wedding, so we didnt spend too much time on it. Plus we wanted to keep it simple so it wouldnt detract from the cake.

You may not be able to tell from the photo, but the cake is a very soft pink, and the stand is white.

I've never really liked seeing a wedding cake sitting directly on a table. So just weeks before our wedding, out came the new Martha Stewart Weddings, and in it was her "Good Things" Cake Stand... So I don't take credit for the idea myself, here is the link below
http://www.marthastewart.com/goodthings/grandstand

So, we cut a board, painted it, used vintage glass cabinet knobs for feet, then hot glued ribbon all the way around. I was excited for such a simple thing, and it added such a touch of grandeur, so I'd thought I'd share.

I dont know where my cousin got the fabric from. What I know is that she went to LOTS of people and all of them said they couldnt get it. Then she found Uncle Silk and he commissioned samples from several vendors in India most of them hand embroidered and then my cousin picked the sample she liked the best. He then ordered exactly what we needed and she shipped it home to me.

It was quite the process, and I selfishly admit that I was lucky not to be apart of most of it, except to send her a photo of what I wanted and to receive the package in the end.

I will tell you however, after looking for MONTHS at every option, I could not find it in the USA. I looked at current panels,  custom embroidery houses, the fabric district in San Francisco. Custom order houses, etc. If this had not worked, we were going to look into silk screening (which would work best on polyester). Because my polka dots were underneath a layer of fabric, nobody noticed how beautiful the silk embroidered organza was. It was a shame, but in the end, silk-screened would have given the same effect because of it. If I were to put it as the top layer however, I would want embroidery.

Sorry I dont have a better answer. Good Luck!

I just thought I would share some DIY wedding projects from my recent wedding. Although, let me clearly state in advance, it was not DIY, more like DIBO (Do it by others) I had lots of talented friends who help me out will all the wonderful details..

My dress was a custom made creation by a very talented dressmaker friend of mine. It consisted of alternating 6 layers of white & pink organza, topped with pink netting. The layer beneath the pink netting is a beautiful silk organza embroidered with polka dots. I couldn't find anything like what I wanted here in the US, so I had my cousin who was living in Singapore at the time commission it from a man in India. It traveled a long way to be with me.  Smiley

The wedding cake was made by the Best Mans Mother a professional cake baker. It was so yummy everyone keeps asking for her name. It was 3 tiers of lemon delight with my grandmothers own wedding cake topper from the 40s.

The arbor we stood under was an architectural labor of love created by my father. The beautiful flower wreaths and swags were created by my dress maker.

It seems that none of our other projects seems to have been recorded on film. It included programs, favors, signs, floral centerpieces etc.

Thanks for listening.. and viewing.

Let me preface this by saying I hate plastic bags! I refuse to use them when shopping. And although I love to sew and do crafty things, for some reason I have fallen in love with Envirosax. Partly because of their beautiful graphics and their easy compact form. They are truly the best reusable grocery bag out there.

Envirosax is running a limited edition pink for Valentines day that I LOVE. So, I decided to purchase them as wedding Thank You gifts and tie a pretty little ribbon and thank you card around them for helpers. I am also going to fill one with several items for my maid of honor.

They cost $8.50 each, which sounds like a lot (when you think you could DIY), but instead of these, I probably would have purchased gift card thank yous. So, not only are they green & pink to match my garden wedding theme, but pretty to boot.

Plus everyone asks me where to get them and why they dont have them when I shop with them.

What do you think? Is this something you would like to receive as a thoughtful thank you?
