Over my Christmas break from college my cousin bought two skeins of yarn and said, "Here! I want a chunky scarf." And thus the challenge began. I actually did not start or complete it until I was back and school and I secretly want to keep it for myself so I thought I would post it here.



This is my lovely roommate modeling the finished scarf.

And finally this is a closeup of the pattern.

I stole the instructions for the cable out of a huge knitting stitch pattern book that I have and then I added the reverse stockinette stitch background and the garter stitch border.


Here is the pattern for the cable, you can add the background and border at your own disgression.

This cable is done on 20 stitches

Row 1, 3, 5 and 7: Knit
Row 2 and all even-numbered rows: Purl
Row 9: Work right crossover on 10 sts as follows: slip 5 to dpn and hold in back of work, k 5, k 5 from dpn, work left crossover as follows: slip 5 to dpn and hold in front of work, k 5, k 5 from dpn.
Row 11-30: Repeat Rows 1-10 twice
Row 31-58: Work in stockinette stitch
Row 59: Repeat Row 9
Row 60: Work even-numbered row
Repeat 1-60 for pattern
