41  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Animal Crossing Swap Rd2 (Sendouts 9/18) SIGNUPS CLOSED on: August 29, 2009 02:09:55 PM
I'm having a lot of fun with my projects! I've got one item finished, two started, and one that I've just got the materials for.  It's going to be a busy, busy week for me, though.  next weekend is Portland's anime convention and as usual I'm making custom costumes for a bunch of people! I've got one child's costume and 5 adult costumes that I'm also working on right now.  I've set up a garment rack with all my projects in progress next to my sewing machines and it's a bit intimidating.

As for my adventures in Yensid, I can't seem to get an hybrid flowers growing. Any suggestions?

Gardening is one of my favorite hobbies in AC (maybe because in real life it's a struggle to keep a houseplant green Smiley )
I've had the most luck getting gold roses. I keep a red rose garden next to my house and plant all the red rose seeds I get from nook's there.  the hybrids come up black first, then after they've dried up one day and are watered,  they return as gold the next day.

You just have to make sure that the two flowers you want to get a hybrid from are right next to each other one above the other and that they're the same type. You can't cross tulips with cosmos, for instance.  It also helps to have open squares around your "parent" flowers so that there are more possible places for the new babies to pop up.

One of my favorite hybrids is the orange pansies.  so pretty! I plant two red pansies with two yellow pansies in a little group.

Here's a list I found online of combinations:
Hybrid Roses:

Black Rose = Red Rose + Red Rose
Purple Rose = White Rose + White Rose
Pink Rose = Red Rose + White Rose
Orange Rose = Red Rose + Yellow Rose
Blue Rose = Black Rose + Purple Rose
Golden Rose = Dead Rose + Golden Watering Can

Hybrid Tulips

Black Tulip = Red Tulip + Red Tulip or Yellow Tulip + Yellow Tulip
Purple Tulip = Red Tulip + Yellow Tulip
Pink Tulip = Red Tulip + White Tulip

Hybrid Pansies

Purple Pansy = Red Pansy + Red Pansy
Orange Pansy = Red Pansy + Yellow Pansy
Blue Pansy = White Pansy + White Pansy

Hybrid Cosmos

Black Cosmos = Red Cosmos + Red Cosmos
Pink Cosmos = Red Cosmos + White Cosmos
Orange Cosmos = Red Cosmos + Yellow Cosmos

I didn't realize there were so many until today! I'm going to have to try for some of these combos so somehow I'll have to make some time to sit down and reorganize flowers.  Smiley

Socks. I love them.

Oooh, I hoop!
I really like the tape on your last pic, it looks really different!

Watch out, making your own hoops can get really addictive.  I'll make a hoop, then decide I need a slightly smaller one so I'll have to make another.  Or, I see some pretty tape that's just begging to hug the curves of hoop. I tell myselft it's okay, though.  It's always good to take a few extras with you if you're going out to a park or other public place to hoop.  people always want to try it when they see my hoops but I don't want to stop hooping and I don't want to be the brat on the playground that won't share her toys  Grin Plus, it's good to have different hoops for different moods (big, heavy for grooving or light and tiny for speed), right? But I knew I was in trouble when I started begging my brother to teach me to solder so I could make my own LED hoops (which took forever but is so worth it!) I hadn't thought of sharing my hoops on craftster, though.  maybe I should take some pics.

I thought I'd offer a suggestion.  I just started using athletic tape (the cloth stuff).  It comes in a bunch of colors and has great grip.  It's a lot lighter than electrical, too, so it won't slow down a hoop with weight and it still has some stretch to it so that it's not too hard to wrap.  It's pretty cheap, which is good since it does have one downside; it gets dirty a lot easier.  Anyway, I like it but it seems like everyone uses electrical, so if you try it be sure to tell me what you think.

Have you been to hooping.org?  They're a great site for picking up trick tutorials and music suggestions.

Anyway, Happy Hooping!

I was playing City Folk a lot and I started thinking about how great it was for crafty inspiration. So I checked here for an Animal Crossing swap, and there was one in the works! I felt so lucky. Kind of like that feeling you get when you're just walking around outside, and suddenly you see a present floating up above, know what I mean?  Cheesy
How serendipitous!

I used to catch coelacanths all the time in the game cube version, but I haven't done much fishing in this one.  I get so mad at catching all those sea bass when I think I'm about to get something good!

Oh, I have a very good method for this. Get out your net and whack 'em on the head repeatedly. Also, walk straight into them and shove them around until they get irritated enough to say something. Not surprisingly, this will make them consider another town if you do it enough. They'll also refuse to wave back at you after a while and turn their noses up in the air, which I thought was pretty funny.

Haha! Net whacking! that's hilarious! I never thought of that.

So the Craziest thing happened to me the last time I played.  I saw two bugs that I had never seen before!
First, I saw what looked like a furniture leaf on the ground, so when I went over to pick it up it ran away.  I didn't know there were any bugs that looked like leaves.

Then, I got attacked by a scorpion! I'd never seen one before, but it went straight for me, stung me and the screen went black.  I woke up a couple of seconds later in front of my house.  Now I want to go hunting and catch these bugs

Has anyone seen them before, or even caught them?

There was a neighbor that I didn't care for. So I wouldn't write him any letters in hopes that he might leave the town. I also would avoid him as much as possible.  Unfortunately he has been ill a few times and I just couldn't allow him to suffer so I got meds for him so he didn't spread disease to the rest of the neighbors. LOL

Has anyone had a neighbor that he/she didn't care for? If so, what did you do to get rid of them?

I had Peaches, a pink pony that I didn't like (not that I have anything against pink..... or ponies) Sometimes I would complain about her at town hall.  You know the thing where pelly asks if you're having trouble with someone in town.  I have no idea what that's actually for, and I doubt it did anything, but from time to time I would do it anyway.  One time my husband saw me and said I was being mean (I guess he liked peaches  Cheesy )  She eventually moved away -shrug-

I have deturmined that this is an extremely quiet group...hmmm... shy are we?

This is a quiet group, perhaps because we're a smaller one?
Anyway, I know we all have one thing in common, right? I assume we all enjoy playing Animal Crossing so maybe we could all share a little info outside the questionnaires?

Like, which versions are we playing currently?
(I'm playing City Folk on the Wii)

Does anyone play every day, or did you used to play alot and then see this swap and go "Oh yeah! Animal Crossing!" then return to your town with bed head and a bad case of roaches to stomp and weeds to pluck?
(I'm in the second group.  I used to sit down and play for a little bit every day after dinner, but then I got Lost in Blue and I wanted to play that during my few precious moments of quiet time.  Then summer vacation for my daughter started and suddenly I was too busy for any quiet time.  Now I'm happy to be reminded of AC since I can sit down with it for just 10-15 minutes.)

Favorite hobbies? fishing, bug collecting, digging for fossils?
(I liked planting flowers and trying to get hybrids.  I had a whole bunch of great hybrids like black tulips and orange pansies before I let the game sit too long.  I also had a garden of 40 or so red and gold roses by my house, but most of them are gone now  Cry )

So... anyone want to talk animal crossing? Can you think of any questions to ask?

Oh man, I hope you all survived that awful heatwave alright.  No a/c for me so I wasn't sure if I would  Grin I even spent an entire day at the Clackamas TC just to cool off.  Went and watched a movie with my girl, read books in the big chairs at Barnes&Nobles, sat on nearly every chair and couch at Macy's home, and tested out the massaging chairs at Brookstone.  To top it all, though, eveyone in my house came down with a nasty stomach flu.  I was off of solids for days!

Anyway, I'm so behind in everything I have to get done thanks to that crazy weather I won't be able to come out today  Cry Cry Cry
Sitting and having a nice cold iced coffee and a piece of cream pie sounds so great.
Well, I'll be thinking of you while I clean and put away laundry and replace the tube in my front bike tire.
Have fun, and I'll see you next time!
