I'm so delinquent in posting his awesome gift from steen.  It's an granny squares crocheted purse (lined and everything).  Steen used my favorite colors and I just love this bag.

Here's a close up.

Yes...That's a pocket (with a screwdriver in it...grabbed the first thing I could find to show off the pocket).

Thanks, steen!  You totally rock!  Happy birthday!
14  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Little clutch purse on: July 07, 2007 09:30:36 AM
I am teaching myself afghan/tunisian stitch and decided to try my hand at making a little purse.  It's based on snbhh's in bloom.

I used some left over chenille so it'd really soft.  It's a bit curly but from what I've read that's a hazard of using this stitch.

Please let me know what you think.  Constructive criticism welcome.

Here is my attempt...it's not a muppet but I think it came out kinda cool.

As you can see, it's now part of my Buddha (and other Eastern deities) collection.

The one in the little alter thingy is from alteredmommy who sent it to me as part on the May Birthday swap.  Thanks again!

Thanks to djonesgirl for this awesome crochetalong.  Let me know what you think...

Awesome!   Shocked

What kind of yarn did you use?
17  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Plastic Bag Picnic Blanket on: July 04, 2007 08:31:23 AM
oh man, my kitty LOVES plastic bags too!! this would be his dream come true!  he would love me forever.  perhaps i will try it myself! Cheesy

Yes, my cat was as happy as can be with all the plastic bags, especially when it was made into stringy "yarn."  Anytime I lay it out, she sits on it.  I think it's destined to be a cat bed instead of a picnic blanket.

Are you going to make one for your kitty?  If you do, I'd love to see it.
18  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Olive the Octopus on: July 01, 2007 11:02:55 AM
For some reason I got it in my head I wanted to make an octopus amiguri yesterday.  I looked on the web for some inspiration and came up with this.

I also finally saw Little Miss Sunshine last night.  After a bit of contemplation on what I should name my octopus I decided Olive was a pretty fitting name.  It sort of looks like an olive with pimento eyes, doesn't it?

Here's a picture of Olive reading Harry Potter 2 with my SO, who is rereading them all in anticipation of the last book's release next this month.

Thanks for looking.  Hope you like it.

Smiley Is it a thing where you can store your "crafting materials" in?

The sweatshirt side is made of an old hoodie sweatshirt so it has one of those big pockets.  I put some crafting supplies in there for crafting outdoors.  Glad you like it.  I'll try to post a better picture of the sweatshirt side soon.  Thanks for looking and commenting!

Here's my entry.  It's for enjoying nature while using recycled goods.  This blanket is made of many many many many plastic grocery bags and a recycled sweatshirt.  I figured plastic would be good for sitting on grass which is often soggy but the plastic is also quite itchy on bare legs so  it's lined with the sweatshirt on the sitting side.  It also conveniently has a pocket for outdoor crafting supplies.

Just the crochet side...

Close up of the crafting pocket...

My cat, on the other hand, LOVES plastic bags and has taken to bathing on the plastic side.

A special thanks to everyone in my family who came together to create plastic bag yarn for me this weekend.  Actually everyone got together for my mother, sister & aunt's birthdays and I put everyone to work.  I couldn't have done it so quickly without a lot of help.
