My bestie from back in HS just had a baby.  Since I moved to the Bay Area this year I thought something tie-dye would be appropriate.

I used a patter from a vintage crochet book I bought years ago and made some modifications to insure I had enough yarn.  It was just one skein!

I promised my my a pair of mittens like 5 years ago back when I was an avid crocheter.  The promise has been bugging me because I never fulfilled it.  Then I saw this pattern: http://www.knittingdaily.com/media/p/30979.aspx and I decided to try it.

I am a novice knitter - I've only made scarves in the past.  I had to size it down for my mom's small hands, so it was a challenge.

Awesome!  It's a great book.  The fashion photos are amazing.  My book was missing a few pages too, so someone may have snatched some of the good patterns.

The first pattern I fell in love with from my vintage crochet book was this adorable turtle.  I made a few modifications and came up with this.



Because I liked to take things apart as a child, I made the shell removable.


I also made this little matching hat.  The original pattern was for knitting but I used this basket weave crochet stitch instead.  Yes, Yeltsin is modelling for me.

I've been trying to knit off and on for years.  I keep going back to my default crochet.  I was recently given a ton of knitting needles by my MIL and gave it another go.

I've made mittens and fingerless mittens but never gloves.  I thought I'd have to learn knitting before I could make gloves.  This winter while it snowed in NYC, I was in Los Angeles and I stumbled upon a great vintage crochet book marked $1.  The woman actually charged me $2.50 for it insisting I should pay it because it was a charity shop.  But that's another story all together.

This is my first project from the book and my first attempt at gloves.



As you can see the photos in the book are incredible.  It really takes you back to the early 80's.  This one in particular features fake snow in the couple's hair.

And...thank you, thank you, thank you for the awesome package.  You are an amazingly talented artist. I can't hand paint a thing.  The box & t-shirt are gorgeous. 

Also, I absolutely adore the lightning bolt felted bag.  It's incredible.  I think Harry & Ginny are now my favorite couple based on the cute journal.  The magnets are already on my fridge.  They are great.  i have to learn how to make those.

The wand is also AWESOME.  Your nephew is quite talented as well.

BTW-the candy has been decimated.  Glad you snapped a pic before sending it.
