1  What do the foxes say? in Halloween Costumes by piratetreasure on: November 08, 2013 11:38:31 AM
Like most of the world we have been obsessed with the Ylvis YouTube sensation- What does the fox say? (http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jofNR_WkoCE&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DjofNR_WkoCE)

When Halloween rolled around there was really no question what our costumes would be.  Finances are tight so we headed for the dollar store and $14 later we had - some feather boas, an orange towel, some dusters, garland, face paint and two masquerade masks.  Here's what we came up with:

And we even had a little boa left over for a cat costume - Marilyn Monroe?

It was a really fun evening.  Folks kept coming up to us and singing their favorite lines from the song. LOL

2  Colorful Rainbow Baby Sweater in Crochet: Completed Projects by piratetreasure on: March 07, 2012 06:21:57 PM
My bestie from back in HS just had a baby.  Since I moved to the Bay Area this year I thought something tie-dye would be appropriate.

I used a patter from a vintage crochet book I bought years ago and made some modifications to insure I had enough yarn.  It was just one skein!

I would love your thoughts!  Thanks for looking.

3  Mittens for Mom in Knitting: Completed Projects by piratetreasure on: March 07, 2012 06:16:54 PM
I promised my my a pair of mittens like 5 years ago back when I was an avid crocheter.  The promise has been bugging me because I never fulfilled it.  Then I saw this pattern: http://www.knittingdaily.com/media/p/30979.aspx and I decided to try it.

I am a novice knitter - I've only made scarves in the past.  I had to size it down for my mom's small hands, so it was a challenge.

Would love your thoughts and advice...Thanks for looking.

4  Vintage pattern turtle in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by piratetreasure on: February 21, 2010 07:38:25 PM
The first pattern I fell in love with from my vintage crochet book was this adorable turtle.  I made a few modifications and came up with this.

Because I liked to take things apart as a child, I made the shell removable.

I also made this little matching hat.  The original pattern was for knitting but I used this basket weave crochet stitch instead.  Yes, Yeltsin is modelling for me.

Thanks for looking.  Please comment.

5  Martha Stewart Cowl in Knitting: Completed Projects by piratetreasure on: February 21, 2010 07:27:41 PM
My MIL gave me a ton of knitting supplies and this pattern copied from her Martha Stewart Living: http://www.marthastewart.com/how-to/dobbs-ferry-knit-cowl.

This was my third knitting project.  I only took the one photo with my phone of me looking grumpy.

Would love your comments.  My next project is a baby sweater.  Wish me luck!

6  Knitting Novice tries Cables in Knitting: Completed Projects by piratetreasure on: February 21, 2010 07:21:48 PM
I've been trying to knit off and on for years.  I keep going back to my default crochet.  I was recently given a ton of knitting needles by my MIL and gave it another go.

Here is my second knitting project.  The first project was a very very wonky scarf.

Would love to hear your comments.  Thanks for looking!

7  Vintage pattern gloves in Crochet: Completed Projects by piratetreasure on: February 21, 2010 07:43:37 AM
I've made mittens and fingerless mittens but never gloves.  I thought I'd have to learn knitting before I could make gloves.  This winter while it snowed in NYC, I was in Los Angeles and I stumbled upon a great vintage crochet book marked $1.  The woman actually charged me $2.50 for it insisting I should pay it because it was a charity shop. Huh  But that's another story all together.

This is my first project from the book and my first attempt at gloves.

As you can see the photos in the book are incredible.  It really takes you back to the early 80's.  This one in particular features fake snow in the couple's hair.

8  Re: May 2007 Birthday Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by piratetreasure on: July 07, 2007 09:50:49 AM
I'm so delinquent in posting his awesome gift from steen.  It's an granny squares crocheted purse (lined and everything).  Steen used my favorite colors and I just love this bag.

Here's a close up.

Yes...That's a pocket (with a screwdriver in it...grabbed the first thing I could find to show off the pocket).

Thanks, steen!  You totally rock!  Happy birthday!

9  Little clutch purse in Crochet: Completed Projects by piratetreasure on: July 07, 2007 09:30:36 AM
I am teaching myself afghan/tunisian stitch and decided to try my hand at making a little purse.  It's based on snbhh's in bloom.

I used some left over chenille so it'd really soft.  It's a bit curly but from what I've read that's a hazard of using this stitch.

Please let me know what you think.  Constructive criticism welcome.

10  Re: Muppet Glasses Holder Crochetalong in Crochetalongs by piratetreasure on: July 07, 2007 09:17:14 AM
Here is my attempt...it's not a muppet but I think it came out kinda cool.

As you can see, it's now part of my Buddha (and other Eastern deities) collection.

The one in the little alter thingy is from alteredmommy who sent it to me as part on the May Birthday swap.  Thanks again!

Thanks to djonesgirl for this awesome crochetalong.  Let me know what you think...
