1  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 48 ENTRIES / ponyo is a fish child. on: March 04, 2010 02:33:30 AM
after seeing all the cute/awesome/great/beautiful/creative entries from everyone (and encouragement from other craftsters), i decided to enter too! my first challenge (although its just a very simple creation, as compared to other creative posts) =D

some of u may have already seen my initial thread on the polymer clay board.. but those pics were without a scale, so i retook some for this challenge.

here u go:

ponyo mobilephone charm! yes, its quite tiny, slightly more than 1cm tall, and 2cm long.

front view.

back. whoops my fingerprints are visible.

i actually made a bunch of them for a charity fundraising effort (as updated in my complete post on the other thread).

hope u like them! and if u are interested, check out my other ghibli sculpts in my complete post! http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=339598.0

@ Chuggypig, yeah, the ugly-cute-ness of kodama is simply too irresistable. my smiling kodamas are actually inspired by this kodama soft toy that i have. Smiley

@ papercups, thks for ur compliment! hmm unfortunately i doubt that i can find sculpey glaze here in singapore.. yup, but i will be playing around with the other possibilities. on a side note, the craft store told me that certain glaze can be diluted with water so that they are easier to work with. *unsure*

@ WideEyedLife, thks! XD

These are AMAZING.

You make me want to make a No.  ALSO I will be creating a particular river spirit I think Wink

Super awesome.

As far as Glazes go, I've used the sculpy glaze but I prefer polycryllic (sp?)  They come in a huge can but honestly you'll spend SO MUCH more over time in those little bottles of sculpy glaze.  Just make sure you give the poly lots of dry time in a safe place.  I personally didn't find it too fumey but it never hurts to do it near an open window Smiley

haha, rmb to post ur creations too, i will be looking forward to see them!

and thks for ur suggestion. diane b has also pm-ed me a very comprehensive guide on finishes.. and after reading up a little, i think i will try Varathane out. Polycrylic may not be suitable in where I live, where humidity is >70% and temperature >30degC all yr round o-O. Smiley

8  ASIA / Japan / Re: Tokyo? on: February 27, 2010 07:41:15 AM
the best hobby/craft store in tokyo has to be yuzawaya. u can check out their website http://www.yuzawaya.co.jp/ if u can read japanese.

they sell everything from fabrics, miniature figurines to all sorts of super kawaii rubber stamps, and so on. much larger variety and more specialized than tokyu hands. i think there are a few outlets, but i go to the one in western tokyo, at kichijoji, just next to the jr station. its a huge store, about 6 storeys? i can spend a whole afternoon there shopping. XD

miss that shop a lot. we need one of it in singapore too!
