1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Fluffy Goodness on: November 20, 2007 08:21:54 PM
I am kind of obsessed with plying with thread at the moment (well plying with merino laceweight). I love the pouffyness of these yarns so I don't see myself breaking free anytime soon.

These are two of my fluffy skeins (the other is drying and I have no patience today) - I really love the red and purple one.

And this is the lone two ply of late - spun from my massive dyeing weekend awhile ago.
2  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Raspberry Rainforest handspun on: October 22, 2007 04:07:35 PM
I am strangely happy with this yarn (I spent a decent amount of time waving it at my non-interested flatmate going 'look isn't it so soft and pretty' and getting no response).

Spun from soft fluffy merino it is really soft and I just love it. The colours are a bit deeper and richer in person - the camera would not cooperate.

3  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Completed Projects / Long weekend = Lots of dyeing on: October 02, 2007 03:09:09 PM
Hi all,
We have just had a long weekend with glorious weather so I decided to do some dyeing. Some of the roving below (mainly the shorter plaits) were handpainted, the rest was dyed on the stovetop
These are my before and during stove top dyeing pictures. I find the second one interesting as the three colours were added in thirds (like the others were added in sixths) and the pink seemed to take over and the green almost disappeared.

And these are my lovely merino roving plaits, all dry and fluffy waiting to be spun

I should probably add they are dyed with Landscapes Dyes
4  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Merino/Camel Top on: September 05, 2007 11:11:14 PM
Just thought I would share the joy.
I bought some 15.5 micron optim treated 50/50 merino camel blend tops the other day and they are by far the most addictive thing I have spun yet. So fine, soft and fluffy and it really lends itself to fine spinning
5  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Lots of yarn (pic heavy) on: August 27, 2007 03:48:17 PM
After several drama and stress filled weeks I finally have some finished objects to show. These darling yarns were my stress/sanity spinning. I am very very happy with the boucle esque one, I was having real issues plying with thread (having been inspired by all the great yarns you guys posted) so I ended up plying with a finer single and voila - success. I don't know what I think of the blue and orange one in the first photo - it was a slight dyeing oopsy and I don't really like orange.

6  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Any hints on getting roving to dry? +a new wheel. on: June 14, 2007 06:27:29 PM
Hi,
Being from a nice warm country with relatively mild winters I normally put my roving out on the side verandah to dry in the shade and viola - dry roving in less than 48hrs.

Here comes the plea for help, it  has rained for about a week, with at least another week to go, with very little end in sight and we are having quite cold weather (around 10C/50F, and yes I can hear you laughing at my Aussie definition of cold). I need my roving to dry as i need to spin - any suggestions? Please?

7  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Mid Week Yarn on: June 11, 2007 10:16:12 PM
Due to the massive storm this weekend I had three very productive spinning days (who wants to go out in the worst storm since '72). These are the fruit of my labours.
Last week I set myself a challenge - to try and spin something finer than bulky - this one is about a 8ply weight.

These three are from left to right
Roving dyed by someone else I am quite happy about, one I really hated in roving form but actually quite like the colours now it is spun up and some nice soothing blue and green - i also have the same blue and green in a single.

This one I love, I was a dyed with the left overs from a couple of other rovings and I was a bit uncertain but I just love it spun up.

And lastly (but not least) Mr Colourful
8  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / First singles from my new jumbo flyer on: May 06, 2007 06:51:31 PM
I bought my wheel a little present on the weekend - a Jumbo Flyer, so I spent a decent chunk of the weekend spinning (housework - what housework!). It is the first spinning I have done in a couple of weeks and being the impatient person I am I just couldn't wait to share. I was seriously impressed, intimidated and inspired by Fiber Friday this week - so many talented people and fabulous wool.

9  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / hand spun merino on: April 10, 2007 05:56:52 PM
I couldn't wait till Friday so here is my easter long weekend spinning, I dyed it up over the weekend, waited impatiently while it dried and jumped around the house for joy when I finally had something colourful to spin
I am thinking of calling this one hubba bubba

Seafoam

and poor little no name
10  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / CANADA / Spinning 'events' in Canada/N America on: February 08, 2007 05:11:21 PM
Hi,
I was hoping the lovely spinners of craftster would have some info for me. I have a work trip to Canada at the beginning of June (which is a nice trip for work to provide considering I am in Australia) and was hoping to attend one of those great spinning camps/workshops/etc that I keep hearing about, only problem is I don't know how to find out specifics.

I had thought of attending SOAR but is is the exact same days as the other conference I has the choice of attending (am I the only spinner in Records Management who sees this as very bad planning) so I chose the June trip hoping to find a get together to meet some northern hemisphere spinners. The conference is in Winnipeg but having gone all that way I don't mind going a bit further.

Any one got any suggestions?

Thanks
Helena
