2  Aids Charity Fashion Show- Zebra and Tutu dresses inside!!!!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by bananaroof289 on: December 09, 2007 12:43:02 PM
So......after many laughs, tears, hugs, and bagels- here are the two dresses I designed and sewed for my school's fashion show!  All money went to AIDS organizations, including Riders for Health http://www.riders.org/default.aspx, which delivers medications and aid to people in Africa who live too far away from their health clinics.  Without further ado...the pics!!!!

Btw, sorry about the faceless-ness, but I didnt exactly ask my wonderful models (also some of my best friends) if I could post them here, nor did I ask the photographers if I could post these photos up here, so until I do... purple heart faces.

Ta-da!! They were seriously amazing models.

Hope you enjoyed! If you want me to steal ask for more pics just let me know!!

3  Purpleicious Corduroy Skirt with BOW!!!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by bananaroof289 on: November 09, 2007 02:47:37 PM

I made a skirt about five years ago when I first learned to sew which was...awful...but i redid it and- VOILA!!

Only problem is that the bow doesn't completely cover the hole underneath where its tied, and I can't figure out how to sew in a piece to cover it up.  EEK!

And finally, a close up of the fabric...

Thanks for looking!

4  zebra woes and some questions... in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by bananaroof289 on: October 30, 2007 05:37:54 PM
For halloween I'm going to be a zebra.  I cut up two t-shirts to make a little dress which I will need to paint stripes on sans fabric paint (ack!).  I also want to use this dress style to make a red silk dress for an AIDS charity fashion show coming up in my school.  Would I need to add construction details like darts to the silky fabric (yet to be purchased) or do you think it would be fine as just a tube with flouncy skirt?  Any types of fabric I should buy that will make my life easier?  And how on earth do I add the darn zebra stripes!!

5  EMERGENCY! zebra woes. how to paint stripes?? in Halloween Costumes by bananaroof289 on: October 30, 2007 03:12:32 PM
UPDATE:  Crappy pic of finished dress (I was mighty tired)!  Better action shots (with ears!) will follow whenever my friend posts them online!

HI!  So I'm totally lame and left costume making to the last minute.  Since i'm the crafty sort (duh  Cheesy) I want to try and make one from the random stuff I already have, not that I have much of a choice since HALLOWEEN IS TOMORROW!!!

Zebra costume?  I  have a plain black leotard (long sleeve) and black tights/footless tights and thought it would be neat-o to make some sort of zebra print fabric into a dress and tail and paint my face.  I have a lot of random white fabrics but I don't know how to put zebra print on it without it looking cheesy. Ideas?

MAJOR EDIT:  I deleted the vast majority of this post since I've decided to do the zebra thing!! YAY! Here's what I have so far...

I'm going to try and make the top part a little bit shorter cause it looks sort of weird in the back.  Any tips on how to paint the stripes???  Will acrylic paint work ok?  I don't have fabric paint, I'm nervous.  I will also wear tights under leotard so too-tight pink waistband will not show thru!!  My friend decided to give me her ears (costume ears i mean lol) so that's set.  And uber-fun with face painting and tail will follow.
THANKS FOR THE HELP!

The costume will be worn in school (I'm a senior), so I want it to be cute and not sleazy.  Any ideas ?
If you've actually read this  crazy thing, you really deserve massive thanks! AND PLEASE HELP MEEE!!!  Cheesy

6  Jumbo white shirt to cute halterness!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by bananaroof289 on: September 16, 2007 08:54:55 PM
This is my first recon and i actually like it!  I cut off the top under the armpits and turned it upside down, took in the side seams, sewed a channel for the ribbon to go through in the front, (painstakingly!) pulled the much larger ribbon through, pulled hard, tied a knot, and then tied the ends of the ribbon around my neck.  Still havent hemmed it but it rolls up at the bottom so its ok for now.

I am trying to decide if I should put a design of some sort on it to make it less boring but I don't know.  Maybe some artsy swirly thing? I wore it out a couple times with a bright pink cardigan to spruce it up.

crappy cell phone mirror pics abound...sorry about that!

Thoughts?  Questions? Opinions?  Comments? Thanks for looking!

7  uber-red aids fashion show dress!!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by bananaroof289 on: March 12, 2007 01:35:18 PM
Hi all!  this is my first post of something i made...
this is a dress i made for this aids charity fashion show at my school.  It's made of bright red jersey knit and from a burda (i think) pattern for the top with a circle skirt attached.  The skirt part is gathered over the right hip cause i made the hole part WAY too big, but it was definately a happy accident cause i love how it turned out!
I also sewed this with a cheap machine borrowed from a friend, which wasn't bad, but it took foreverrrr to do the gathering.  And i somehow broke a glass in the process.   But I LOOOVE it now!!!!

Me, pre-modeling it.  A different girl wore it for the actual show.

I also wore it for my sweet sixteen in november-definately not the greatest picture...but yeah.  That's my friend christine.  she has no idea i'm posting this picture of her Smiley

well, the show was pretty successful, lots of money raised for charity from the ticket sales and donations, and my dress was definately one of the best there, everybody was asking me to make them stuff!  Sorry about the utter lack of good pics, but im sure you get the idea.
