1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Cheating at Batik on: March 05, 2009 04:36:34 PM
I needed a project that was simple, but would keep some kids busy all weekend.  I found this way to batik fabric with gel glue and figured I'd give it a try before I introduced it in case it wasn't as easy as it looked or something.  Here's the result:

2  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects / Stamp Carving on: July 11, 2008 07:31:36 PM
My fiance and I have started letterboxing recently.  I carved his signature stamp for him, but then he got interested enough to try his own.  This is what he came up with:

It's his first stamp ever and he'd like to know if you're nerdy enough to get what it is...

Thanks for looking.
3  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Bobbin Troubles, Please Help on: September 25, 2007 07:49:07 PM
I just got a new old sewing machine from my aunt.  I'd ask her to help solve this, but I think she used the thing twice in it's life and she's probably had it for at least 15 years.

Anyway, I hope I can describe this in a way that makes sense.  When I'm sewing the material will get suddenly caught up and stop completely.  It seems like it's because something is catching the thread on the bobbin so that fifteen or twenty strands are trying to be pulled through at once.  Since it's wrapped around the bobbin they obviously can't all go at once, it's the same strand, so it just stops completely.  I then have to open the bobbin door and cut it out.

I checked the manual again to make sure I had the bobbin in the right way and it was, tried sewing again and the same thing happened.  I tried turning it just in case and the same thing happened.  I can get it to sew about six inches and then it chews up the bobbin thread so that I have to cut it out.. and it happens in a second, so I think it's happening all at once.

Please help, thank you in advance,
Samantha
4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Futurama Shrinky Dinks on: July 31, 2007 10:11:15 AM
I've gone a little Futurama crazy lately.  I know it.  I'd also been deprived of shrinky dinks when I was a kid, so when I saw them in the store one day I had to get some to try out.  I didn't know what to make at first, but now I've done a couple things.  I think they're cute.

Just click to see bigger pictures, my photobucket is acting strangely here.
5  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Another Futurama Shirt on: July 25, 2007 08:55:53 AM
So I made my boyfriend another Futurama shirt because the first one I did for him: (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=163906.0) he didn't wear because it's white and he just doesn't wear white.  What kind of heavy metal lead singer would he be in white?

Basically, I just made stencils for every color out of a sheet of masking tape cut with an exacto knife.  I'm not a great stenciler, but I think I did pretty decently.

This was the first one and it's the same process for all of them.  I would just take a piece of wax paper and stretch the masking tape across it one piece after another, overlapping by half to make a sheet of it.  Then I would put the part I was going to cut out underneath and exacto it out.  Then peel the tape off the wax paper and lay the tape straight onto the fabric.  You can even put tape on top of painted areas after about 30 minutes.

And here's his smiling face because he's thrilled to have me as a girlfriend.  Wink

The text reads, "YOU'RE NOT NICE!"  A quote from The Robot Devil in the episode The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings when Fry tells him that he won't give him his hands back.

If you want more pictures of the process lemme know and I'll do it.
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Futurama on: April 13, 2007 02:01:07 PM
My boyfriend is a CRAZY Futurama fan, and he's turned me into one also.  He'll be visiting for two weeks on Sunday and so I made him this shirt for when he leaves.  What do you guys think?

It's from 30% Iron Chef: Season 4, Episode 11 Smiley

Sorry for the poor quality photo, I'm in the process of moving, so I don't have a place to really lay this out to take a picture, so I just held it upright on my lap.
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Leafy Bed-side Table on: February 13, 2007 02:37:00 PM
Last summer I needed a bedside table at my boyfriend's house, but I just needed a little cheapy one that I could put a lamp on.  We ran to wal-mart and got one of those ten dollar round ones.  This was far too boring for me, so we went outside and picked all the different kinds of leaves we could find in his area and I got out the paint, painted the leaves and pressed them on there until I was satisfied that it was covered enough.

*EDIT* When I first uploaded this I wasn't able to post pictures, so I'm going to repost it now.  Thanks!

*EDIT*

Lemme know what you think!
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Duct Tape Messenger Bag on: February 12, 2007 01:02:16 PM
This is a messenger bag that I made for my best friend, Emily (note the big curly E).  I had a little help from my boyfriend, mostly just helping hold the other end of the tape as we lined them up to make strips for the weaving on the front and the long one for the strap.  It's entirely duct tape, no inserts anywhere, though it probably would hold it's shape a little better if it had them.  It's hard to tell from the picture, but it's all white and shiny silver with pink trim.

This is my first post here, so I hope I'm doing this right.  Let me know what you all think!  Cheesy

Also, I guess I'm not allowed to post pictures yet, so please click my link and look. Smiley
