PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / Polio Mother of the Year

Well, it's been sometime since I've posted in this category, but I found this little piece of ephemera, a picture of a woman named Mrs. Davis W. Phillips, and a short line about her being the Polio Mother of the Year. No explanation, no nothing, just the picture and the line. She looked so full of life, so I had to make her into an ATC. Her face is slightly blurry because the bow is keeping it from lying flat on the scanner. I colored her dress and bow in with a dry brush rubbed onto a pastel, I love the soft effect, it looks (in real life) like how they used to do it on photos a long time ago. Roughed up the edges, and as always, distress inks. Hope you guys like it! (I'll try to get a regular picture of it soon)

MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Shadow Box- (very pic heavy) now with a longwinded story about each box!
|
on: July 01, 2007 02:52:09 PM

I finally finished my shadow box, you might remember seeing the image from the largest box before, it was an ill-fated fathers day card. There is a ton of special meaning behind everything in each box, but I won't bore you... Sorry the photo's aren't flipped... The whole she bang a bang My fathers box, My mothers box My aunts box A box for friends In-law's box Grandparents box Neighbors Box I might add more to it, but I'm not sure yet.. Hope you guys enjoy it, if you have any questions, please ask, comments make my day! Have a good one.

IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Completed Projects / Frankenstein T-shirts.

on: June 25, 2007 09:34:20 AM
|
My husband, myself, and our two close friends recently got a brand spankin new screenprinting kit (speedball) and decided to try it out last night. We made a shirt, a tank top, some undies (not pictured) and some wee baby clothes for my friends bun in da oven. We are all quite pleased with ourselves and can't wait to make some more. We used filler liquid to do this one (we won't be doing that again, too much work!) and we hope to use photo emulsion next. This was a first attempt for all of us, so if you have any tips let us know!

MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Why am I so gloomy?
|
on: June 11, 2007 06:10:36 PM
|
This began as a fathers day card for my father in law, but everything I make seems to turn out kinda gloomy, now it may not get sent, husband thinks it isn't really fathers day type material. Oh, and yes I posted my card here, I just thought it's more art than papercraft, but move me if I'm wrong

MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Death Before Dishonor

I love old tattoo artwork and sailor lore, so I thought this wall hanging would be a fun tribute. I drew up the picture based on some flash I saw in a magazine, colored it with colored pencils and traced the outside lines with a pen that makes your lines puff up (I don't know what its called ) then I distressed a piece of scrapbook paper with distress inks and sandpaper, stuck it to another paper and added brads and made the flower (It's attached with a brad also). I made tags from pictures of old sailor tattoos and used wire to hang them as well as the picture itself. Hope you enjoy! Comments are wonderful!

MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / A collage for my dad
|
on: June 06, 2007 09:36:34 AM
|
One day whilst dumpster diving I came across an old tackle box. Inside were some sweet vintage finds (the box itself was old, I use it for my paints and pastels now) The next day I decided to go check out some yard sales and found these big books from the 50's and early 60's called Comptons Yearbooks and they basically have a look back on the year in question. I loved it for their old pictures and text. Anyhoo, I made this collage for my dad using some of the old tackle and some pics from the book. Unfortunately, the background is kinda blurry, because that thing that says splitshot is a small tin that used to hold sinkers and it's keeping the canvas from laying flush with the scanner. I also used paints and distress ink as well as an old tape measure. Comments appreciated (if you can even make the dang picture out!)

CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions / Want to make some newborn clothes..

But I can't find patterns in my craft store Do they even make them? I have about 4 months left till my best friend gives birth, and I want to give her some alternative options for dressing her new girlie. I also need patterns for a larger baby, because I want to give her some outfits that the wee one can grow into. If any of you awesome crafters can help me I'd really appreciate it!

OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Pin Up Gift (Img. heavy)
|
on: April 11, 2007 05:38:17 PM

O.k., so my hubbys birthday is Friday (the 13th- yeah, I know, he IS evil ,the friday the 13th birthday thing has happened to him like 3 times already) and I had a friend take some nice pin up pictures of me for him but I don't know what to do with them- a calendar is out, too late in the year, and I'd feel weird just giving him a few framed pictures, because I live here too, wouldn't it seem a little vain of me? Also, I'm thinking this might not be such a good idea anyway, I kind of always dress like this, so I wonder if he will think it's just no big deal.. Anyway. It will be o.k. if his gift is a little late, so if your ideas are kinda big that's o.k. too. Or if you think I should just scrap the whole thing, lemme know. Here are a few shots that I'll be using, PLEASE HELP!! (I look like such a tool, I know) I have no idea why the last picture is upside down, but jsut tilt your neck and lemme know what you think!
