11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / I killed a perfectly good skirt on: June 25, 2007 11:52:24 AM
So, I found this pretty paisley, gypsy printed skirt at a thrift store for like a dollar. I get it home and it fits great, but its one of those that fits on the waist, and the gathering made my butt look HUGE. So, crafty me decides, "well, I can always recon this, and just cut it to fit at my hips, take it in a little. perfect. Except I forget all about the gathering, and I don't actually know how to do gathering. So i end up with this:

Given that I ruined the waistband trying to salvage the elastic, I can't just add that back on. And given that I don't know how to do gathering, I can't just add that in. How do I salvage THIS?
12  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Brothers on: June 03, 2007 08:18:34 PM
Ok. So. My mom got me a sewing machine for my birthday/graduation present. (sucks having graduation 5 days after your birthday). It's a Brother LS-2125i. Whatever that means. I dunno, my mom got me the cheapest one from walmart. So what I'd like to know, is should I secretly save the receipt and return it in a few weeks? What's been the crafter experiance with this kind of machine? The only ones I've ever used were my gramma's 1950s Kenmore and the school's old old Singers
13  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Cleaning on: February 21, 2007 01:48:06 PM
This is going to sound like a dumb question, but how do you CLEAN shoes? Like the insides? I have this terrible awful habit of not wearing socks (I detest socks) and just about all of my shoes smell like feet. My question is, what's a good way to clean shoes that you can't just stick under a faucet, IE boots and things?
14  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / canvas and slipcovers on: January 27, 2007 05:52:46 PM
I didn't want to post two seperate topics on this, for fear of clogging boards and whatnot. (Sorry if I really should). But two questions.

1) Does anybody know a place to get nice, cheap, canvasses? I'm looking for smallish square ones that won't be too expensive.

2) I'm taking my parent's furniture when I move out in the summer. Only problem - its ugly as sin. So I was wondering if anybody knew where to find a good pattern for slipcovers. I figure I could just make them myself, It would probably be more cost efficient anyways, and plus, I'm a crafty kinda girl.

Thanks in advance and sorry if I really should be posting this as two seperate topics
15  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Peace paint journal on: January 26, 2007 04:55:28 PM
I made this using those little paint-sample things you can get at wal*mart. Or anywhere really. It's hard to tell from the picture (it was really hard to find good lighting) but the background is varying shades of blue and purple, with a bright orange peace sign. I just used a regular notebook and taped them on. I wanted to use glue, but we didn't have any. My only problem now is finding something to put over the cover so nothing gets bent/falls off  Cheesy

16  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / An Indian/Moraccan themed room on: January 23, 2007 05:43:32 PM
Hey everybody! This is my first post, and I have a teensy favor to ask. I'm redoing my room. I'd like an India/Moraccan theme to it, without going over the top. My walls are a cream color, and I can't paint them. I've got bright red curtains and a patchworked purple/red/gold/green bedding set. I also found these beautiful sheer maroon and gold curtains that I'll be hanging around my bed. Problem is, I don't know where to go from there. I'm on a tight budget, so I can't afford really extravagant things. Any advice on how to create this feel?
