(family was in town, that's why i disappeared for awhile...)

i got my yarn ball from kim (mub) last week. it was so cute. it came wrapped in tissue paper in a cute wire basket. as i unravelled it i found:
--ribbons
-- handmade a necklace and matching earings
-- crochet hook
-- stamps
-- buttons
-- note pad
-- silly button
-- more cute buttons
-- a mini stapler and staples
-- a purple sharpy
-- and a homesewn travel tissue case.

i really want the pattern for the tissue case! i've never carried travel tissue before, but i will now cause the case is so cute. i want to make them for gifts!!!

i saw an article in bust magazine about this swap called "garment remake exchange," only problem is it's only organized between two cities at a time, but i love the idea....

you send your partner a piece of clothing. and then you each have a month to remake that piece of clothing. you can do whatever you want and then mail it back to your partner-- whala!

any interest? i've never organized a swap before, but i love this idea...

my ball had many sharp corners- so be careful mub! it was really exciting to look through the gallery. i can't wait until mub gets hers and i get mine!

i put my magic yarn ball in the mail to mub today. it's got to make the trip all the way from new york to utah, but i hope you get it soon!

i have a question for everyone? are we supposed to unwind it as we make our project-- or rewind it and reveal our treasures asap?

i've got the pattern and the yarn-- working on crafting items and collecting fun treats for the ball. all systems go

in atlanta there is a program called "teddy bear hug" where you can donate stuffed animals to first responders (emt, police) for when families are in car accidents. maybe call your locl fire/police/ambulance and see if they take similar donations

i like the blue binding on the bottom, too.  did you line it?  i find that only 1 sheet layer by itself can be a little flimsy for skirts.

the binding is binding tape, i used it at the top too at the suggestion of my friend rachael (she's super crafty). i did not line this skirt, but my roommate john liked to point out that it was see-thru so i have to wear a slip. i made a skirt with the same pattern that i did line though.

i bought this vintage star wars sheet on ebay to make pajama pants for my then boyfriend. with the episode coming out, i got inspired to use the rest of the fabric on a skirt for me!
     
     
     

so my sister wanted an apron for her birthday, so i whipped this up late one night. the fabric is a heavy fabric from ikea. i simply laid an apron from my kitchen down on the fabric and cut it out. then i pinned white binding tape all around the edge.  before sewing, i cut ribbon for the neck and waist straps. i tucked those under the binding and then sewed down the binding tape. it was so easy!!!
