11  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Everday tote bag on: January 20, 2008 10:46:21 AM
So last spring, I thought it would be awesome to make a spring-y neutral-color bag for school on the lighter workload days. I drafted a pattern from scratch and bought the fabric, but I didn't get around making it until December of last year ... I guess this bag will come in handy this spring semester instead Tongue

There are lots of firsts in making this bag. It's my first time making a tote, first time making a inside zipper pocket, first time piping, and first time really using a sewing machine.... @__@ It was a little hard making the bag while trying to read the instruction manual for the sewing machine...

Anyways, here goes
The front of the bag

back of the bag

top of the bag with separating zipper

peaking into the bag... I used a bright peachy coral color for the inside to give the bag some spark since the outside is less exciting on the color choice

Close up on the inside zipper pocket. I made a little embroidery patch as the tag for this bag. It has my initials on it Tongue

Close up on the other inside pockets for pen, phone, etc.

Just put a book inside to give you the prospective of how big and spacious the bag is.

Oh, and I also lined the outside zipper pocket with the same coral fabric Wink

Since the bag is for school, I used sturdy canvas fabric for the inside and out. I tried interfacing the bag to make it stand up but it didn't work because the iron-on interface didn't want to stick onto the light brown fabric for some reason.
Sorry for the long post but I'm really excited and proud of my first bag Smiley
I hope you guys liked it!
comments appreciate

all three of them look so cute!!
First one: love the color & fabric, and definitely love the cuffs and the hood.
Second one: I just love the color and design of that skirt and how comfy it looks.
Third one: small puffy shoulder is a must right now. It's just so damn cute!

great job! keep up the good work!

am I the only person that finds this oddly erotic?
haha

no...I totally thought that the blow pop and the big tootsie roll was a play on eroticism till I read the part about giving it to children... maybe I have it on the brain... (hubby just got home from a week away...kids aren't sleeping yet...argh)

Hahahahaha... I was so caught up with the process of making the chair that I totally didn't notice the link between the blow pop and the tootsie roll until I finished the whole thing and showed it to everyone and have them ask.... uhmmm is that suppose to be an "adult toy"..... lol
Sometimes when you're so focus on the detail you forget about the bigger picture  Tongue
