51  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: Revamped Sewing machine, from gross to Glam!! on: May 19, 2007 09:18:39 AM
Oh LA LA!
I am glad to see I am not the only one to name her sewing machine.  I bought an old Kenmore the other day and just sitting there looking at her I KNEW she needed a name.  I named her Violet.  Everyone thinks I am nuts for naming a machine.  I wish she had a case....

I have a Joann's Superstore and last week I noticed that they do have roving.  My jaw dropped and I kept saying "They have roving?!?!?!  They have roving!?!?!? here? At Joann's??"  You could have knocked me over with a feather.  They had all sorts of colors (more than my local LYS) in little bags.
53  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Re: My Little Medusa (modified my little pony) on: May 07, 2007 10:21:22 PM
I'd go with the greek mythology theme.  A letter from the greek alphabet, a Jason Tatoo or something.  I am not familiar enough with the medusa myth to come up with something off the top of my head - but do a little digging.
54  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Questions About Hairstyles! on: April 27, 2007 03:30:23 PM

Only use pure, body-art-quality henna.  The henna sold as "henna for hair" contains other ingredients and usually has hardly any henna in it.  The non-natural ingredients are what react with chemical dyes.

You know I have heard this SO much lately and I juast have to scream
THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!  I think people are just saying this bacause they want you to spend more money on THEIR "body-art-quality henna"

I have been dying my hair with regular for hair henna for the last 15 years and on occasion I will dye over it or henna over dye.  My hair has never ever turned green.  I have never had any chemical reactions and it has always been happy and healthy. I have only used lemon juice to "activate" the henna once.  That time the henna didn't even take as well as it usually does with plain boiling water.

So the next time someone tells you this ask them if they have ever personally used for hair henna and if their hair has ever turned green.
55  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: What is the most inappropriate place you've seen people KIP? Discuss. :) on: March 09, 2007 03:21:37 PM
I think the 3 big no nos are sacred services - Wedding ceremonies (reception is fine) funeral and CHURCH!!!  I am sorry - you can put down your needles for an hour.  If i can expect my kids to listen and keep still then I think it can be expected of adults ADHD or not.  Fold your hankie, or flip through the scriptures or hymnal if you have to keep your fingers moving.

I also have to comment on the knitting while driving.  That just scares me. At least have someone else to the driving for you.
56  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Pineapple Quilt extra detailed WIP on: March 06, 2007 05:41:38 PM
i like to combine black with brights and batiks they really seem to pop with black accents like a frame or a stained glass window.  How bout a very wide binding on the edges combined with a wide border.   I think a solid color backing would be fine - white or black if you decide to go that route.
57  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Fairy wings - HELP!!! on: January 19, 2007 12:07:04 PM
I made wings for Halloween it was so fun and they look great!  I used regular craft acrylic paint with a little water.  I had lots of colors in my palate and glitter to finish it all off.  I burned the holes with an incense stick before I painted them it was really easy to highlight the holes with paint.  I made all sizes of holes.

58  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Hyperbolic plan models on: January 17, 2007 07:36:33 PM
I am going to get the boys in my house crocheting hyperbolic planes models

http://www.theiff.org/oexhibits/oe1e.html

does anyone know of a place with patterns? I realize many of them are just a simple increase but is there a place that describes the different types of planes with different pattern instructions?
