OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Present for guy I'm dating?

Ok, so there's this guy at work that I'm friends with, but I don't know him that well yet except for a few things (like he's a total nerd like me). I was thinking of getting/making him something for Christmas, but then he complicated things a little by asking me out. We haven't actually gone on a date yet (day after tomorrow!!) and like I said, I was still thinking of a giving a gift when we were just friends status, but what do you give a guy you work with and just started dating and don't know that well yet? We work at a movie theater and he's lead projectionist and is always lurking about the hidden rooms of the theater (a while ago we had a bit of a Phantom of the Opera/haunted theater joke going on) so I thought a little Phantom plushie to keep him company in the booth would probably make him laugh, but I'm totally second guessing myself ever since he decided to kick our friendship up a level.

CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: Buyer Turn Offs

I haven't yet opened an Etsy shop but I've got a questions concerning whether clothing and accessories should be modeled on humans or not -
What if the pictures I took were staged to look more like those you'd see in a catalog or a commercial advertisement? Would a more professional looking photo make you more likely to overlook the fact that the garment has already been worn for five minutes?

Thankfully I still live at home and make my parents deal with anyone at the door if I'm not properly attired.
However there was one time I was at my boyfriend's house putting the finishing touches on my Ren Faire costume and I was in my undies trying it on, and my boyfriend had just come out of the shower. Of course we're comfortable around each other, but his mum had a bad habit of not knocking and just barging in. So she bangs the door open and sees him totally naked and me in my undies. It took a lot of explaining before she believed we weren't "canoodling" while she was home, but it broke her habit of never knocking!

KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: The Great Ravelry Topic

I recently discovered the joy of finding out what substitute yarns other people are using. One of my pet peeves is finding a pattern I like and having no idea what an appropriate substitute would be because I hate fiddling with gauge so I like to get a yarn that will knit up pretty much the same.
Thanks to Ravelry I realized someone knit a pattern I liked but didn't know what yarn to use for, with a yarn I've been yearning to buy but had no project for. Yay!

I just decided to do this, I have some yarn in my stash that needed some lovin' and I've been wanting to try cables for the longest time. My boyfriend loves cables so he'll be thrilled that I'm learning to do them (and he'll probably try to steal the finished scarf).
