My roomate and I are throwing a Christmas party as well (but think more drunken debauchery than cookie decorating and sledding  )
We're going for a super cheesy Christmas theme, like enouraging people to wear crazy christmas sweaters or show up dressed as the three wisemen or baby jesus.  alternatively, our backup plan was a fancy dress christmas party.  those are always fun too.

as far as decorations go we bought a ton of christmas lights and are stringing them up through the whole apartment.  i'm going to buy christmas bulbs and hang them from the lights so there's more shiny stuff going on.  then we bought a mini tree (a real tree was not within our budget) and stockings to hang up, and we might make some sort of christmas themed poster for the walls.  and since we have a red couch, we might use that as a set up for fake family christmas portraits of the guests.

I've been friends with pretty much only boys since I was about 13 (I'm a sophomore in college now), and I've always had really good luck screenprinting tshirts for my guy friends.  It's personal but not overly so (not like underpants or something) and they're useful.

If knitting isn't an option, I made a pretty sweet scarf out of old pajama pants by cutting them into two pieces (a really long flannel piece and a long sweatpant piece) and sewing them back to back into a scarf.

Other than that, movies are always good.  This year I'm making a lot of sock monkeys since I'm broke.  And cookies.  Boys love cookies.

I'm in Boston, and it never really occurred to me to look for a crafting group...if there are any, I would definitely be interested. 

If you haven't found anything yet, I'd be more than happy to show you a way to do it out of household materials.  It's not quite as professional, but it works well if your design is relatively simple.

I like it without the pocket, but the pocket kind of started to grow on me.  The 90s do seem to be cool again, so maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing?
