1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Purple bag with flowers - testing a pattern. on: March 22, 2010 02:32:27 AM
Last year I wanted to make up a bunch of hand bags to sell and gift, but as it was I only did one for a swap. So this weekend I set myself down and made up a new pattern for a bag. I'd picked up the 'handles' the other day and wanted to try them out.

The lining is a quilting fabric I found, I echoed the pattern from the lining on the front of the bag to tie it all together.

It's not overly well made being the test bag, and I forgot to interface it so it would be firmer and sit nicer but what do you think?

Inside theres a pocket to put your wallet in.

And one for scale.

As you can see it's much bigger than my dog Wink
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / a little embroidery on: August 19, 2009 10:37:33 PM
A while back a friend gave me a doll sized embroidery hoop, over the weekend I gave it a go. I'd not done a stand alone embroidery before, but I have embroidered designs on clothing and cross stitched as a kid.

Anyway here's what I came up with:

And nearly 'finished' so you can see it closer.

At it's widest point it's just 4cm wide.

What do you think?
3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / like I used to draw on: May 03, 2009 07:03:49 PM
I'm a little intimidated posting in this thread, but somehow things seem more finished after I've posted them up here. I'd not consider myself an artist generally, but I used to like to draw, and I hadn't had a chance in a long while.

I started this drawing weeks ago for a competition (not a drawing competition), and I've found I keep messing with it. I hope now I've done a background I can consider it finished and leave it alone Wink

She's meant to represent a character I've writen about, and while I was so sure it was her at first, somehow now I'm not as sure. Sometimes I look at her and see the character in the expression, and sometimes not.

Smiley thanks for looking Smiley

5  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / "Silver Lining" patchwork gown for bjd. on: March 22, 2009 08:27:49 PM
Hi Everyone Smiley

This is what Ive been messing with this week, and yes I may be crazy to make such a thing but it was enormous fun!

The dress has a total of 30 pieces, each sewn directly into place as the dress was built from the top down. Can you tell I love jigsaw puzzles?

Here are full length shots of the front and back:

I am not sure entirely what the fabrics are because they were given to me years ago by a friend, but one is a synthetic woven from silver and white thread to create a textured finish and the other is a cotton like weave printed with metallic dots. Heres a closer look at the fabric and construction:

Smiley I hope you like it!
6  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Red Wall on: March 15, 2009 08:48:13 PM
Ok I've lived in this place a while now, 2 years I think and I only just got some pics on the wall yesterday ... sigh.

There are actually 4 in the series but I'm using command hooks and one didn't go on right so the pic fell down soon after I hung it. double sigh.

7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / "Old Lace" and evening/wedding gown ... lots of pics on: February 28, 2009 08:07:03 PM
I see this on so many threads but 'I've not posted in a while' ... I'd been working on a series of dresses but stopped to finish up this dress I made last September! ... yep about time!

So yesterday I got out Freya (elfdoll Sooah), dressed her up and went on a photo taking rampage. Here are some of my fave pics from the extended shoot.

overall I think this is my fave:

I do love this series:

But I like these too:

The dress is constructed by sewing together strips of lace that are about 2 cms wide. There are little gathers and tucks here and there that create the fit and shape. I then worked out an underdress that would work with the shape.

Here are some pics of the underdress:

Sorry for all the pics, I have such a hard tome picking!
I hope you like it!

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Two Nighties for a friend on: December 09, 2008 09:06:54 PM
I've recently made 4 nighties for a friend of mine based on Simplicity 8619. (I changed the sleaves to a raglan type.)

She's just had a baby and wanted something that was easy to breast feed with. The first two were gold and royal blue, but I didn't take pics before giving them to her.

Here are the two I gave her yesterday.

Close up of the lace.

With my little helper.

She says she's been wearing the blue one out as a dress. Which I guess is ok as they are from a dress pattern, but I probably would have been extra careful about matching the thread colours etc had I realised they were going to be daywear. But if she's happy that's the main thing!!
9  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / My first quilt ... on: December 09, 2008 12:27:42 AM
A good friend of mine was having a baby so I said I'd make her a quilt. ... I'd never made a quilt before, but how hard could it be right <cough>

So because she was having a girl she received everything in pink from everyone ... she hates pink. I went through my stash and pulled out all my blue florals and came up with this:

It's um ... very .. rustic? Far from being a professional quilt, but quite cute in it's own way.

I just tied little knots at the corner of each square to secure it. The initial idea had a large embroidered image on it, but I ran out of time, and wanted it to be functional and it's not really easily washable that way.

In any case it's cute and my friend likes it.
10  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / High Chair Cover on: October 31, 2008 10:13:16 PM
My sister has 5 children and number 4 is currently using their high chair. The seat is going and well there is one more child that needs to use it.

She tried to buy a new one and the only stock the supplier had left had a picture of a rather surly looking 'hip hop' hippo on it. He was not a happy looking camper. She didn't want her children sitting on it Wink so she asked me to make her one.

I thought, 'sure how hard can it be'.

 Shocked

Well I'm not keen on making another one soon. Hopefully this one fits!!

We had trouble finding some vinyl to use so bought plastic coated table cloth. It looks ok in these pics, but I think if you saw it up closer the billions of errors and difficulties would be more evident Wink
