31  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Geek Chic swap (SIGNUP 26/04/2009-09/05/2009 ; MAIL BY 05/06/2009). on: April 27, 2009 11:34:07 AM
What do you mean by "geek zone" ?  Does that refer to what geeky things you're into / not into?  e.g. I love Doctor Who, but I can't stand Monty Python...?

Oh, and the send-by date scared the cr*p out of me.  I'm American, so I read 05/06/2009 as May 6!  Tongue

<much upthread quotage removed>
Yup! They moved from Harvard Square to Central Square a year or two ago. Their new space is so much bigger, and now they have a dedicate gaming/event space - The Couches of Doom.

Ooh, shiny!  I'm thinking road trip... maybe if I ever actually attend a college reunion Wink

In related news, DH and I found a local gaming group, and attended our first meetup last night.  They are awesome!  Cheesy  We thought we were up to speed on Euro games, but someone brought an entire duffel bag full of games, not one of which we'd heard of.  So we played a bunch of new games, and a couple of games we knew.  OH - and one of the members is a knitter!  Some of us were playing a game where players get eliminated throughout the game - and once she was eliminated, she pulled out yarn and needles and started knitting.  She kept her DPNs in her hair.   Cheesy

So I opened my mailbox just now and the most heavenly scent wafted out...

Thank you so much MareMare!   Smiley

I just came back from a trip to my local geek store ( http://pandemoniumbooks.com/ ) - I was thinking of you ladies the whole time! (And I picked up an issue of Craft: while I was there!)

They still exist?!?  w00t  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Back when I was in college, there was a Pandemonium Books in the Garage near Harvard Square.  I was very disappointed when I visited Cambridge a few years back and it was gone. Sad  I guess it just moved.
35  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Beef Wellington on: April 18, 2009 05:40:34 PM
My husband and I decided to make Beef Wellington for dinner tonight.  I'm the chief cook, he's the sous-chef.   Tongue

First, the finished product:

Duxelle (two types of mushrooms, onions, garlic, thyme, fresh chives from the garden (yay spring!)):

Assembled beef wellington:

And fresh from the oven - mmmmm, medium rare!

Thanks for looking!
36  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Chuppah (wedding canopy) on: April 18, 2009 04:44:26 PM
My husband and I bought a ginormous tallit (can't remember the dimensions, but it was large enough for us both to stand under).  We bought four wood poles and silk flowers, decorated said poles with said flowers, attached the poles to the corners of the tallit, and asked the significant others of our wedding party to hold the poles.  (There were 6 people in our wedding party, and 4 of them had partners, and a tallit had four corners...)  The poles currently live in the four corners of our family room.

My husband went to a wedding (this was before I met him) where the bride and groom sent out squares of fabric to all their guests.  The guests could do whatever they wanted with the squares, but they had to mail them back to the bride and groom by a specific date.  The bride then sewed all the completed squares together into a chuppah.

I love it too.  I'm using Sugar & Cream for the cotton washcloths I'm knitting.

My bath puff from faerieknits arrived in today's mail.  I also received body butter from mcook a while ago.

Here they are:

Thank you both so much! Smiley

Just as long as one of them doesn't look up at you and say "MAMA!"  Wink

Those look yummy.  And fattening.
