1  Re: Secret Craftster swap (Round 3) Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Fluxity on: August 29, 2007 11:20:03 PM
I got a package today.... from Canada?? Turns out my SC was in Canada for a trip and sent my package from a whole other country to be extra, super sneaky!

All I can say is.... HOLY COW, SECRET CRAFTSTER! Your panting on a t-shirt skills are phenomenal! This is the BEST Giraffe shirt I have ever had! Thank you, Thank you!!!!!

(I will post a picture of me wearing it soon, I just got back from a particularly sweaty yoga session, and I don't want to stink it up! Smiley

Also, can you tell me what kind of paint you used, and the best way to wash and care for it, so the paint doesn't fade or come off? I want to make sure that this one stays in perfect condition!

Thanks again!!

I got my first package today! Beautiful dangle earrings, with stars - my favorite shape, and GIRAFFES!

Thank you thank you Secret Craftster! They are beautiful! I am going to change my outfit now, so I can match the green beads on the giraffe set - to wear them right away!

** Hmm, the pictures are big a blurry - sorry about that. My camera just doesn't like tiny-closeups, I guess. Smiley

3  Giant red concert bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Fluxity on: August 06, 2007 02:11:12 AM
So, I decided that when we go to the Gorge Amphitheater for Download 2007 (INCUBUS!!!!) that I don't want to mess with my backpack again. I wanted a big over-the-shoulder bag - but I looked in my closet - and the Shelf-O-Purses didn't have anything quite like what I was picturing. So I made this:

It's big - about 11" tall, 13" wide and 5" across at the base - with my very first zipper ever!!! in one of the inside pockets. I used this tutorial and I think it worked out perfectly!

I was going to make it a messenger bag, but I put two heavy-duty magnetic snaps in there, and snaps shut so tightly that I didn't see the need for a flap. I do think it's a little bare on the outside, though. Any ideas to spiff it up?

The pictures are from my blog, and if you go there, the pictures are clickable and get bigger, if you should so desire. Smiley

I awoke Sunday morning to find G missing! I searched high and low, all over town - and I finally found him.....

at Starbucks! Sipping an iced mocha and reading the Sunday paper!

I didn't know he was such a caffeine addict! (that may be my fault...)

5  Fairy! **UPDATED! in Sublime Stitching Embroidery by Fluxity on: July 20, 2007 01:45:27 AM
The minute I saw the fairies and gnomes pattern, I bought it right away! I was very pleased with the size of the patterns, the fairy in the picture below is 7 inches from tip of her wing to the bottom of the toadstool she sits on, which was perfect for the project I'm doing.

Here's my progress so far:

Her dress is in metallic thread, along with the outline of her wings and the little "twinkles" around her. Metallic thread makes me want to hurl my embroidery hoop across the room like a Frisbee, but I stuck with it and I love the results.

If you go to my blog, there are clickable pictures that get quite big, if you're interested in seeing more detail on the stitches and such. Smiley

*~*~*Update*~*~*

She has hair, ladies and gentlemen!

picture with flash: (more accurate color)

without flash: (more contrast)

This is taking longer than I'd hoped, but it's coming out so nice! I used veriagated yellow for the hair, making an extra effort to make it look like she has pretty highlights.

Any suggestions for a color I should use on the mushroom? I'm drawing a blank there...

6  Fit To Be Tied purse: in Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller by Fluxity on: July 12, 2007 01:14:53 AM
Finished it! For my best friend, who is now living in Italy - I hope she likes it!

The color looks so dim and awful, it's actually a wonderful bright turquoise.

I used a pretty stripey lining, too - but I didn't have a snap to sew in, and I was feeling really lazy, so I didn't block it.

To be honest, about the blocking, I read the section explaining the process three times, and I have no idea how to "block lightly" as the pattern directed. As far as I could tell, there weren't varying degrees of blocking in the book... and ideas?

G has been a blast to have at the house!  Grin
He plays a mean game of cribbage, but my BF still won. (Always does)

And he quickly became fast friends with Maynerd, the amigurumi giraffe that danaisradxcore (my very first swap parter) made me. They're troublemakers, the two of them. (They haven't tried to drive a car, though!!)

Let me first say... WOW!

My boyfriend called me at work to tell me I had gotten a package, so I ever-so-sweetly asked him to go out to lunch with me - my treat! .... As long as he brought my package with him. Smiley And let me say, I have been SPOILED!

WARNING: lots of pictures to follow. I was going to try making a couple nifty collages, but it just was not working right!

The big picture:

Fruity Oaty Bar Octopus Stuffie! And an apron for craftiness - (there's that stuffie again! I looooove him) the pockets had two pieces of beauuuutiful fabric in them, and some candy that I ate already. Smiley

A Firefly journal, with some altered pages!

Some pages out of a symbol that turned into paper... And incense from Inara

Bookmarks (how did you know I'm trying to break my habit of dog-earing pages??) And a beautiful chinese-print change purse:

Also lots of candies and a paper lantern and a pretty pretty pretty bracelet and STICKERS! Lots of different dino stickers, and some shaped like strawberries. I have to post a close up of this particular sticker, because the expression on his face makes me laugh out loud:

THANK YOU ALI_MAREA! You were the most awesomest swap partner in the 'verse!

I'm sending tomorrow after work.  I'm so happy with how my first swap went!  I am really pleased with the stuff I did.  Smiley  I hope my partner likes it as much as I liked making it!

I can't wait to see what you came up with! I am also sending tomorrow - though I am having last-minute second thoughts about one of my items.... I think it's going to be a late night.... Smiley

Edited to say: Done! All packed and ready to go to the post office tomorrow!

10  Not actually a project, but.... in Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller by Fluxity on: June 21, 2007 12:22:54 AM
I have never knit a stitch in my life.... until today. I bought SnB book today, and then some metal knitting needles (19 cents a set!!!) and some yarn at the thrift store. (I've been so inspired by all the beautiful knitted things you Craftsters have been doing!)

After a couple hours of hand cramps and swearing like a sailor:

See that?!?! I cast on, and knit another row and a half, without accidentally strangling myself with the yarn! I've never been more proud.  Grin
