21  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / crazy tiered skirt to floofy dress! on: April 05, 2008 08:43:29 PM
i made a lot of stuff over spring break, but this is really the only interesting outfit.
i bought this skirt at the thrift store
and made it into this dress {i don't know why i look so orange, i'm actualy quite pale}
the fabric is really sheer and there wasn't quite enough fabric to make it double layerd in this fabric, so i took the lining out of an old skirt to line it.
i still need to sew the sash/waistband thing and i'm trying to decide if i should put straps on...
thanks for looking!
22  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / easy costumes for camp themes on: April 02, 2008 08:56:54 AM
so even though it doesn't feel like summer is ever going to be here, i'm already planning for it..  i'm working at a girl scout camp this summer and each week we are having different themes.  and as program director (in charge of CRAFTS and planning activities) i figured i should have a costume for each theme.  i've already thought of some ideas but i need help from all you crafty people..
one week is "time warp"  and we will be staying up late and sleeping in..  so obviously that means glow in the dark stuff, but i want to try and think of something a little more interesting.
j"et, set, go" we are studying different countries (England , Mexico , India , Switzerland , and the USA)
"everyday is a holiday" we will celebrate St. Patricks, Valentines, New Years (i have stuff for this), Birthday, and 4th of July
the weeks i already have are "glitz and glam" (i'm wearing a feather boa all week), "camp olympics", "it's a jungle out there" i'm making a monkey tail and ears, "treasure island" is pirates and stuffand "water works" i have a hula skirt
i have to wear a tshirt, shorts, and tennis shoes all the time so whatever i do has to work with that...
if you've actualy read all this thanks bunches! Kiss
23  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / crazy skirt help on: March 22, 2008 03:39:42 PM
so, value discount outlet was having a half off sale for easter Shocked  and i picked up a whole lot of stuff.  and i know what i'm doing with it all, except this skirt.  i'd like to make it into some type of dress/jumper type thing but i'm having trouble deciding exactly what to do.  it's huge, as you can see, and really shear (sheer?)  so if any fellow craftsters have any ideas to help me out that would be awesome.
when held above my boobs it about knee length.

(ps, i'm in my dorm without a sewing machine for 2 more months, so hand sewing is going to have to do.)
24  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / love is a battle field on: March 01, 2008 01:03:01 PM
sooo... i found this tshirt at target and fell in love with it.   but i'm not much of a tshirt wearer so i bought it knowing i would do something to it....  i'm wearing a black long sleeve shirt underneath and i made the black mini skirt underneath it from an old thrift store dress because the shirt wasn't quite long enough to wear alone (why didn't i pick up the xxl??)  i'm not as brave as a lot of girls here, so i have to wait till the weather isn't in the 30s to wear this.  unless i wear it with jeans i guess....

the fact that i go to an arts school that's devoid of a specific school color, i had my choice of colors (and text design) when picking out a school shirt.  it's not that exciting, but i like it because i love turqouise! and stars.

(the star is a reverse aplique with a crappy embroidery and fabric paint outline)
25  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / 14th birthday on: January 21, 2008 11:27:40 AM
my little brother's birthday is in a little less than a month, but i'm stumped on what to get him.  i got him this book http://www.amazon.com/Loads-More-Lies-Tell-Small/dp/0452288568/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200943232&sr=1-6 for christmas because i didn't have time to make anything because of finals and all, so for his birthday i'd rather give him something a little more personal (even though he loved it)  i thought about taking a page from one of the guy's other books and putting it on a shirt, but i'm not sure if he'd like that.  he's still in that jr high, wow that thing my sister made is kinda lame mode, and hasn't entered into the diy apreciation stage.  he's in band, and likes video games and linkin park.  he reminds me of the kid in jr high that you had a crush on, but were to embarassed to admit it to your friends.  i tried asking him what he wanted and he wouldn't tell me anything.   and it can't be anything to big because i have to ship it from school home...  so no blankets or anything like that, otherwise that's what i'd probably do.
26  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / magazine "masterpiece" on: January 17, 2008 09:29:30 AM
i made this using a tutorial waaay back.  it's made w/ magazines linked together like a bubble gum wrapper chain.  not that that's any help if you don't know what that is (which i didn't.)  i saw a "designer" purse like this for over $200 dollars, and i knew i could make my own.  granted, the designer one will probably last longer.  but i didn't spend outrageous amounts of money i don't have.
anyways- pictures!

^ i played with the contrast so you could see the inside.  duck tape, because i'm obsessed with it.

^close up...
the straps are store bought.  lots of glue, mod podge, and acrylic sealer was involved...
comments/criticism?
27  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / day of the dead owls & christmahanukwanzaadan & welcome to camp (many pics) on: January 15, 2008 04:14:07 PM
this one isn't exactly a recon, but it would be lonely all by it's self..  i found an amazing fleece remnant @ jo anns- just enough for my scoodie.  when it was all wrapped up it looked like day of the dead skulls, but the owls are just as cute!  the lining is a super soft tshirt from goodwill..

close up of my favorite owl >

i made this for my friend.  this "politically correct" holiday is a little past due, but that's what she gets for giving it to me so late.  it was just a HUGE tshirt from her dad.  she's a little bigger than me, so it's kind of baggy, but she's not around to model. ps the text says "wishing you a politicaly correct holiday season *christmahanukwanzaa dan*"

i was a girl scout camp counselor this summer and we had these tshirts made. the front says "welcome to camp" (inside joke) and "camp timberlake  girl scouts"  it's pretty tight, so i had trouble getting it on, but once on it looks good.  i thought i was going to need straps, but the bra i'm wearing kept it up.  i'm still contemplating the issue though.>

and the back, with all our "camp names" on it.  i put it upside down because otherwise it wouldn't fit.  not that it matters, because it's too blurry in the picture.>

thanks for looking!
ps.  my mirror is so freakishly dirrrrty....
28  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / tampon holder (1st post) on: December 23, 2007 12:13:16 PM
this is my first post on this board.  not the first thing i've ever made, but the first thing i'm ok with showing off and giving as a gift...
i glanced at this tutorial http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=208589.0
and of course, didn't actualy follow the directions....   it didn't come out EXACTLY like i wanted, but i still think it's cute.  and my friend i made it for is going to love it.   shes a big purse carrier and having tampons floating around isn't cool.

29  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / panic mode! on: December 17, 2007 11:17:07 AM
i've come up with presents for all my friends and family- except one person.  my best friend from growing up.  she's such a hard person to buy OR craft for.
she's pretty much a typical college (university of texas) girl, except she dosn't party..
she's super smart- valadictorian in high school.  she was a band kid but not anymore.  she's probably the most unopinionated person ever, or at least in our group of friends.  she doesn't have a tv in her room, but she watched desperate housewives on her computer.  she likes going to football games.    she likes pop/hip hop/rocker chick type music.    her favorite colors are yellow and blue.
but none of this is something i could see myself using as a theme to gift around.  for graduation i gave her word magnets, really nice body wash, and something else.  a year or two ago i did the whole scrapbook thing.  she lives in a small dorm so....  i'm at a loss.   and i can't just buy her something because i crafted stuff for all our other friends.
oh, and she doesn't carry purses, wear jewlelry (or any accessories).  so that's out of the question.  darn.
