2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: price of dmc floss went up again! on: October 04, 2009 07:42:36 PM
Has anyone tried the cheaper floss that you can get in multipacks at Michaels and the like?  If so is the quality ok?  I know the color choice can't compare ...
3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: HELP! I hope to fix where floss as bled onto the fabric! on: October 04, 2009 06:38:55 PM
Hi -- I had this happen with red embroidery thread on natural colored linen (which I didn't want to  bleach) I used a product mat by Rit that is designed to remove dye ... it mixes with water ... I used a tiny paint brush to dab it just where it was needed and ... it worked. Good luck
4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: DMC Satin/Rayon Embroidery Floss? on: October 04, 2009 06:07:08 PM
Hi -- I have a question that maybe someone here can answer. I was wondering if there is a noticeable difference between the DMC brand cotton and the cheaper stuff (Prism and Janlyn) that you can buy in multipacks in some craft stores ... to me it doesn't look like it has the sheen and I wonder if it is also a shorter staple and less sturdy thread? (of course I know the color selection does not compare)
5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: My Free Sewing Machine...but now what do I do? on: July 31, 2009 07:38:32 PM
Hi -- this looks just like a machine that I got for free ... only mine was a portable without a case which is necessary to keep the machine stable (I ended up paying like $15 for an fairly grimy original case for it)... it works great fior straight stitching and I love it BUT i can't figure out how to take advantage of all of the different stitches (no manual) and I'm wondering if you you could help me out with this ... something with the dial on top? and then the upper dial on the front? I have a very fancy machine (which i also love, but this one is such a sturdy workhorse ... I'd love to get a few more stitch options out of it.  thanks

7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: 2008 Color Craft-A-Long on: February 16, 2008 05:47:28 PM
last year i made it up to orang (ish) before i pooped out. This year month 1 and I forgot to photo my rainbow.  But here are some red things I made for a swap.

a wool felt brooch

and

a lunch tote -  I used two fabrics (gingham for the lining) ... fused together and then that iron on plastic coating ... hoping to get an oilcloth effect.  With all the layers it came out very stiff ... seems to work better (in terms of retaining fabric like flexibility) if you only plastic coat one side.

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: New Pouch...Need Input on Patchwork and Fabric Combos on: February 16, 2008 04:37:38 PM
I think the pouch and the fabrics you used are lovely ... i get kinda tired of seeing everyone use the same trendy at the moment prints we have such easy access to :-). Necessity is the mother of invention/creativity!
