1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / My First Quilt! (Disappearing 9 Patch) on: March 30, 2014 10:18:58 AM
I started this quilt back in January and just finished hand stitching the binding this morning. Grin  It's hard to believe that it started off as 315 4.5"x4.5" squares!  The finished quilt measures just under 7'x5'.  I felt like the quilt top itself was loud enough so I just went with the same chocolate brown from the small squares for the back and the binding.

Since it was my first time quilting anything larger than a knitting needle roll, I decided to do straight lines that followed the pattern of the quilt top for the actual quilting part.  Here's a close up where you can see the quilting lines.

Overall I'm extremely happy with how it turned out but will definitely be making something a bit smaller for my next quilt  Cheesy

Here's an awesome tutorial MareMare did on how to make a Disappearing 9 Patch quilt top - http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=422253.0#axzz2xT0UpfHH
2  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Vegan Pho on: January 01, 2014 03:39:18 PM
I'd never had pho before so I decided to dive in headfirst and try making it.  Smiley  Overall it turned out great (I had no idea what to expect).  I used tofu (cut a block of tofu into chunks and bake at 425F for about 25-30 min, flipping once), baby bok choy, and shitake mushrooms for the toppings.  For the onion (called for in the recipe as a garnish), bok choy, and mushrooms I sauted each ingredient individually with a little evoo and set aside.

Here's the recipe I followed

4  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Sweet Chili Lemon Tofu with Wok Steamed Kale and Quinoa on: April 06, 2010 06:54:41 PM
We made this a few weeks ago and it was so pretty that I had to take pictures   Cheesy

It's a modified version of a recipe from Vegan Yum Yum

Instead of using lime, we used lemon juice because that's what we had.  We also substituted kale for collards and made some extra quinoa.  The recipe was super easy to put together and very tasty, I'd highly recommend it!
5  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / [April Fools] My first time with polymer clay! Chocolate Ice Cream jewelry!! on: April 01, 2010 06:19:07 AM
I lost one of my favorite earrings last week and I wanted to find a new pair quick so I thought what better way than to make my own!  I've had a bunch of polymer clay sitting around for months but I've been too afraid to try working with it.  After several attempts, I finally came up with the perfect idea - combine 2 of my favorite things, jewelry and ice cream!  I love how these turned out!  Comments/questions welcome!   Smiley

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Basket Rib Hand Towel Set on: February 15, 2009 01:08:57 PM
I made this hand towel set for batgirl in the Random Swap and I absolutely love how they turned out!  They were super easy to make and went really fast!  I used Lion Brand Cotton yarn and made a few modification to the pattern to make it bigger -

Cast on 62 stitches, work pattern 30 times, repeat row 1, repeat row 2, bind off in knit. (Full notes on Ravelry)

Close up of the pattern -

Full sized -

Matching washcloth I made with the leftover yarn -

Questions/comments welcome Smiley

8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / My first project other than a scarf - a sock! on: March 03, 2008 06:43:33 PM
Not only is this my first time knitting anything other than a scarf, it's also the first time that I followed a pattern and the first time I knitted in the round!  I'm really proud of how well my first sock turned out and had to share even though it's only a quick cell phone pic!   Grin

Here is the link for the pattern I used: http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/socksbasic.htm

I did ribbing all the way down the leg portion and for the instep.

Thanks for looking  Smiley
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / My failed attempt at a hobo bag on: September 30, 2007 09:59:44 AM
I tried to make a hobo bag last night for the first time and wasn't very successful (probably because I didn't use any sort of pattern or tutorial).  But after spending several hours trying to make it and the fact that I really like the fabric, I figured I would post pics  Cheesy

Even after sewing and re-sewing all of the seams I still didn't get them all.

The dimensions of the bag are all wrong (it's too long and not tall enough), only one of the sides of the strap matches up in size with the body of the bag (the other one had to be folded to fit), and the seams are all ripping.

I really like the outside fabric (which I got for $1/yd at Joann's!) and I plan on trying again once I get more brown fabric for the inside.  Thanks for looking!  Smiley
10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Brown quilted paisley purse on: September 12, 2007 03:41:32 PM
Yay now that miss_k has received her swap package I can finally post the purse I made with the leftover fabric!  I used the jordy tutorial and modified it slightly to make it bigger and add the quilting to the outside.  This is the first quilted purse I have made and I am really happy with how it turned out  Smiley

Thanks for looking!
