2  copper and resin ring in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by ohimskrewed on: December 21, 2008 04:41:44 PM
this ring was modeled after the Guggenheim Museum in New York.  i used copper scraps and rolled them out and cut them into strips and silver soldered into rings. they are all held together with a brass rivet.  i molded a piece of sheet wax around one side poured the resin in.

so.. any thoughts?

3  copper necklace in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by ohimskrewed on: October 21, 2008 04:22:51 PM
i was inspired by VintageBlueStudio's posting of copper pendants & charms so i decided to make my own!

this is the nearly true to the colors.

this shows the hammer work well.

made the copper from a little scrap i found sitting around my metal working class, rolled out and hammered.  it makes a really great noise when you walk/move around.
i loves it!  Smiley

hey everyone! here's the pictures i promised!

first we dipped our fingers into warm wax (heat was similar to the kind you get in a paraffin wax hand treatment).

our teacher brought out a tool box filled with colorings which i suspect may have been around since the late 70s.. lol
i chose a opaque lime green, which ended up being very dried out and i could not get all the chunks out so you can see them floating in there. i also added a few drops of an awesome sparkly yellow someone else in class had mixed up (the streaky parts by the top knuckle) and embeded a clover i found in a potted plant outside the room. (its that blob right under my finger nail.)

yay! fingers!

alright, so i decided that i couldn't be a zombie again this year.  i decided to go as Tira from Soul Calibur 4.  i'm having some problems with certain parts of this so if anyone could help me i would be more than greatful for the advice! Smiley

i'm trying to recycle as much stuff as i can, and buying fabric and other stuff as needed.

so here is the idea in its entirety.. (i had to take pictures from my tv Cheesy)

front:

-i have worked out a sort of pattern (my torso is much shorter than i would have thought! lol) by cutting up an old tube top (bleh) so now i just need to find some large pieces of paper (probably at school)
-i'm not too sure what to do about the whole puffy sleeve thing.  i don't even know what they are called, if they have a name.

back:

-yikes..

head:

-the boyfriend found me a jester hat at the store today, but it has 3 points instead of the 2 i'm looking for. anyone know of a pattern? or know of the general shape i should be cutting those (i'm guessing triangles..)
-i may just scrap this and do crazy hair instead.

i'm also making one of her ring blades (i bought a hula hoop!) most likely cardboard and papermache. i'm just having a hard time deciding which to make... any preferences?  Grin

overall i think i've gotten myself in waaaaaaaaaay over my head.  any help or suggestions or nudges in the right direction are much appreciated!

woohoo! they came out better than i had hoped~
hearts with sprinkles.. yum ^_^ (totally dropped them in too early.. i was impatient!)

an ice cube (magazine cut out embed) & green glitter

and my favorites..
the magical forrest trio! hah.. (the far right has glitter all over the back for added awesome)

now to figure out how to work these into wearable jewelry*plots*

btw.. i used castin'craft clear plastic resin and catalyst + their molds coz everything was in the same spot @ the craft store and they were about to close. (didn't use mold release)

[and on a completely different note, this thread has caused me to stop my lurking habits and actually post something]
yay resin!<3<3

thank you so much for this tutorial!!!!!  i've been wanting to try resin for a while and just didn't know how to go about it.  super easy to follow for a n00b like me. Cheesy
i just finished a few.. and i'm really excited to see how they came out! i will have to wait till i get home from work tomorrow to see how they turned out. 4 have magazine picture cutouts in them! eeeehehehehe!

i had a little problem though, when i was busy adding stuff to my molds, my resin mix seemed to have jelli-fied in the cup. any ideas what could have caused this? (slowness, shoddy mixing, making too much at once maybe?)
