1  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Mythbusters shirt (first contact paper stencil) on: July 20, 2008 10:30:24 AM
I've been using the Mod Podge method, and love the reusability of it, but at least for me, fine lines are pretty inconsistent and require quite a bit of touching up. So I thought I'd give this a try. It was a pain to cut out the stencil but the results are great, although I wasn't thinking and messed up the lettering when I filled in the B and R with light blue. Oops.

Here's the stencil:

And here's the shirt:

2  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / cultural appropriation shirt! on: December 02, 2007 08:21:09 PM
this was inspired by an amazing cover to Hyphen Magazine.

i wish i hadn't done the eyes in red, because it looked really cool in just silver and black. but i thought it would look cool in red. oh well. the ink is still wet in this pic, that's why you can still see a lot of brush strokes.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Phoenix Sweater on: November 25, 2007 10:15:03 PM
i thought this pattern was cute:
http://www.knittingpureandsimple.com/babycardi.html

so i knit it up for my new nephew, Phoenix.

and added some embroidery on to the back (this picture was taken earlier in the summer before the sweater was finished):

(it's supposed to be a phoenix...the red doesn't photograph that well)
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Raspberry Swirl Bobble Hat on: November 25, 2007 09:21:32 PM
I just finished this hat for my sister-in-law's birthday present. Sorry the pictures are so crappy...it's hard to photograph a hat while you're wearing it!

basically there are three rows of staggered bobbles separated by a narrow band of the CC, then there are narrow stripes up to the top of the hat which is closed with a MC bobble.

do you guys like?
5  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / it just doesn't feel right! on: August 31, 2007 05:53:57 PM
okay, so i've started spinning with a hand spindle (bottom whorl). i've made some horribly inconsistent yarn, but the actual spinning process doesn't feet right to me. the fibers don't flow from my hand easily, and the spindle, after i spin it, will turn once or twice in the direction i want it to and then spins the wrong way and undoes my work. so...what am i doing wrong? i thought it might be that my drafts were too thick, and that helped, somewhat. but it still doesn't feel like i'm doing it correctly.
any advice?
thanks!

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / stenciling flub to political halter! on: July 31, 2007 02:43:48 PM
when i first started stenciling, i made a few mistakes. this was one of them. but i turned it inside out (and washed out a lot of the ink, it hadn't been heat set) and turned it into this halter top from the book "TEASE" with a few mods.
you can still see some of the old stenciling on the back and the bottom hem is wrong side out, but i still like it.
i'm going to the Asian Pacific Islander American spokenword and poetry summit on friday, and i'm going to wear this when i perform!
it says "not your fetish" in a mock-up of chinese take-out menu font.

8  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Completed Projects / stenciled and reconned M*A*S*H shirt on: July 04, 2007 08:05:08 AM
I posted this in reconstructed but I thought I'd post it here, too, because i'm a 1x. I like the side gathering on this top, although i wish it went down past my hips! i have big arms so i always need sleeves, and these just sort of happened by accident but i think they're flattering. the low back also lengthens my torso while still hiding the "rolls". i hope you like it!

9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / stenciled and reconned shirt - M*A*S*H on: June 27, 2007 08:47:37 PM
reconned an old navy camo ringer tee and added some stencils (using the mod podge method). the ties are from an old halter top...i hope to replace them with some cool ribbon at some point.
this is one of my first reconns, and certainly one of the more successful ones.
