1  Mythbusters shirt (first contact paper stencil) in Stenciling: Completed Projects by theknitnkitn on: July 20, 2008 10:30:24 AM
I've been using the Mod Podge method, and love the reusability of it, but at least for me, fine lines are pretty inconsistent and require quite a bit of touching up. So I thought I'd give this a try. It was a pain to cut out the stencil but the results are great, although I wasn't thinking and messed up the lettering when I filled in the B and R with light blue. Oops.

Here's the stencil:

And here's the shirt:

2  Re: Come one come all post your new tattoo IDEAS! in Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions by theknitnkitn on: December 06, 2007 10:04:16 PM
a close friend of mine was killed in a hit-and-run six years ago this month. ever since his death i've wanted a shark tattoo (his last name is sharkey and he was beautiful and misunderstood) on my lower back in his honor. i think it's finally time to get it done! i'm going to be in SF for the month of January and there's a great place out there that's woman-owned and operated called Black and Blue. i've heard nothing but rave reviews. i found this image online and really liked it...so i'm thinking all black/shaded shark and shadow. i'll want the artist to redraw and refine it, of course, but i like the movement in this image. and it's a tiger shark, which is what i wanted. i'm also going to add the date, 12.18.01.

3  Re: Show Off Your Hair! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by theknitnkitn on: December 06, 2007 09:55:35 PM
hair! i'm so glad i found this topic!

i haven't had long hair in years...but my hair is still getting progressively shorter (although right now my sister has placed a moratorium on all haircuts until after her wedding).

here it is about a year ago, nice and red:

february of this year, orange and spiky:

i hacked it off in april for Drag Ball:

grew it out somewhat this summer:

got sick of it and cut it off for another drag performance:

and this is where it's at now - all my natural haircolor after a year:

4  cultural appropriation shirt! in Stenciling: Completed Projects by theknitnkitn on: December 02, 2007 08:21:09 PM
this was inspired by an amazing cover to Hyphen Magazine.

i wish i hadn't done the eyes in red, because it looked really cool in just silver and black. but i thought it would look cool in red. oh well. the ink is still wet in this pic, that's why you can still see a lot of brush strokes.

5  Phoenix Sweater in Knitting: Completed Projects by theknitnkitn on: November 25, 2007 10:15:03 PM
i thought this pattern was cute:
http://www.knittingpureandsimple.com/babycardi.html

so i knit it up for my new nephew, Phoenix.

and added some embroidery on to the back (this picture was taken earlier in the summer before the sweater was finished):

(it's supposed to be a phoenix...the red doesn't photograph that well)

6  Raspberry Swirl Bobble Hat in Knitting: Completed Projects by theknitnkitn on: November 25, 2007 09:21:32 PM
I just finished this hat for my sister-in-law's birthday present. Sorry the pictures are so crappy...it's hard to photograph a hat while you're wearing it!

basically there are three rows of staggered bobbles separated by a narrow band of the CC, then there are narrow stripes up to the top of the hat which is closed with a MC bobble.

do you guys like?

7  Re: Adopt A College Student Swap Round 2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by theknitnkitn on: October 28, 2007 07:55:41 PM
I LOVE that cupcake shirt! i'm such a (vegan) cupcake fanatic.

anyway, midori_sour has recieved her thankyou, and since she didn't post pictures i thought i would.

this isn't the best shot ever, but they're peridot (her birthstone) earrings. i used all sterling findings and three different shapes of peridot: round, faceted rondelle and faceted rectangle.

yay! my package arrived saturday but i didn't get to the mailroom until this morning. and it was worth the wait! what a wonderful swap package! midori_sour is amazing!

here is everything all wrapped up:

here's my favorite part...the cupcake box! i am really into the cookbook "Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World" right now...i bake a batch at least once a week!

here are two picture frames (yay!) and some candy (i didn't realize Mike & Ike's were vegan...they're already gone! i love sour candy) and some sharpies (who doesn't love a sharpie?) and a lovely pair of green earrings (i am an earring fanatic):

here is some great yarn in wonderful colors and some fabric - it's from the movie "Robots" (which i loved):

and here are more polymer cupcakes! yay!

thanks midori_sour! you're the best! i hope you like your thank you gift!

10  stenciling flub to political halter! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by theknitnkitn on: July 31, 2007 02:43:48 PM
when i first started stenciling, i made a few mistakes. this was one of them. but i turned it inside out (and washed out a lot of the ink, it hadn't been heat set) and turned it into this halter top from the book "TEASE" with a few mods.
you can still see some of the old stenciling on the back and the bottom hem is wrong side out, but i still like it.
i'm going to the Asian Pacific Islander American spokenword and poetry summit on friday, and i'm going to wear this when i perform!
it says "not your fetish" in a mock-up of chinese take-out menu font.
