1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Robot Family Portrait on: February 13, 2010 05:00:12 PM
So, this is a combo of several different ideas. 1. Robot family portrait. 2. the attached hearts by a string and 3. The 'EST' and then date of wedding. This is an anniversary present for the hubby - 2 years in March! The traditional present for the 2 year anniversary is cotton so I used 100% cotton embroidery thread. This is my first 'real' embroidery project so some parts are a little wonky but I think that makes them cuter!

The one with two distinct feet is the boy. Plus, I've since switched them on the wall so the string doesn't go through the 'Est' line.
Thanks for looking! Smiley
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Zombie Gingerbread Men! on: January 26, 2010 10:07:43 AM
So, my husband left me all alone for 2 months. So.. what's a girl to do? Make his Christmas presents for Christmas 2010! I love Christmas but he doesn't have that much Christmas spirit - what would help this? Zombie Gingerbreadmen ornaments! plus victims!
I decorated a cookie tin.

Close ups!

I made salt dough oranments - a first for me! They would randomly bubble - does anyone know how to fix that?!? It worked out okay though - cuz it helped with the zombie look!

And of course, what are zombies without victims!?

I ended up making 13 zombies and 6 victims.
Now I have to wait a year to see his reaction!
3  CANADA / Ontario / embroidery floss downtown toronto? on: October 23, 2009 10:04:42 AM
Hey,
I'm looking for a place that sells embroidery floss in toronto. Hopefully somewhere downtown or easy to get to on the TTC. I had to break down and get some from Walmart Sad don't want that to happen again.
Thanks!
4  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / quilts that double as playthings on: September 02, 2008 06:59:01 AM
So, I have a 4 year old newphew and a 8 year old niece. I was thinking of making the boy a tresure map quilt and/or a quilt that has roads and things on it so he can use it to play with toy cars and trucks.
However, I am at a loss of what kind of quilt to make for the girl that could be played with in the same manner. Any ideas? Thanks!
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / death in the extended family on: August 20, 2008 05:04:41 AM
So, I just learnt that my SIL's husband died of a heart attack last week. They had two young kids (3 and 7). I don't know her that well (only met her once), but she seemed nice and they seemed to be a nice family. My husband is in Afghanastan and I am in Ireland - but we are both originally from Canada. My husband may be going home to support her but I won't be.
Seeing as how I don't know her that well, I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on anything I could send her/or do for her from abroad???
Thanks - (hopefully you have enough info!)
6  U.K. AND IRELAND / IRELAND / knit meetup? on: July 09, 2008 12:44:18 AM
I'm trying to find/start a knitting/crochet group based in Dublin. So, if anyone has heard of any, or has an interest in joining give me a shout. Thanks!
7  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / what are these needles for? on: June 30, 2008 05:50:16 AM
so, I found some interesting needles in a second hand store.
They both have crochet hooks on the end of a long plastic string (effectively a circular needle). One is double ended with crochet hooks, and the other has a circular stop and only one crochet hook at one end. Any idea of what they are or how to use them. Many thanks.
8  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / learning to crochet with crochet thread on: November 28, 2007 03:56:25 PM
I came into a bunch of thread crochet hooks and some vintange patterns recently. But I"m having a hard time translating my (limited) crochet skills to thread crochet. Anyone know of some good websites and/or books to learn from? Thanks.
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / army tour carepackages/present ideas?? on: November 28, 2007 03:46:54 PM
Hey, I'm in the army and my fiance is as well. He is going on tour in a couple of months. My sister is in as well and is thinking about going over. So, by problem is that I want to start thinking about crafting things for them when they go. I have some ideas but I thought it would be a good idea to compile/brainstorm together.
The kicker for army guys is space - stuff has to be small, portable, usable, and/or edible/consumable.
So here are some of my ideas:
- a quillow (pillow that turns into a quilt)
- slippers
- smores in a box (unscented candle, mini marshmallows, matches, stick, crackers)

And that's all. I'm kinda stuck. lol.
10  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / double headed crochet hook? on: November 05, 2007 06:40:19 AM
So, I recently came into a bunch of crochet stuff. One of which is a double headed crochet hook - a hook at both ends. I have no idea what this is for? The tunsian stitch??? Any help? lol.
